“Mase.” Derrick yelled from the road. I held my hand up and stared down at Gracie.

She lay so still, maybe I didn’t miss.

Her chest rose and fell. Her heart beat erratic. She had dirt along her back and in her hair.

She moaned.

“Don’t come back Gracie. I mean it.” I said again and kicked her foot.

I walked backwards and watched to make sure she didn’t move.

A few more feet away and I turned. Derrick leaned against the van, his head in his hands.

I put my hand on his shoulder.

He flinched and slid away from me.

“Derrick.” I held my hand up. “It’s over. She’s gone.”

“How could you do it?” He mumbled under his breath as he walked around the front of the van.

“It’s for the good of the club.” I said, my voice sounded heartless and cold even to me.

“Fuck the club.” Derrick yelled as he climbed into the van. I let him have his little temper tantrum. He had been off since Mattie’s death.

We had a plan to take out the Vipers once and for all and if all worked out, the Dragons would rule all of DC and we’d get back to peace and the legit business of the club.

For now, Grace was out of harm’s way and I could concentrate on who killed Mattie.

I turned toward Derrick and put my hand on his shoulder.

“We need to focus on finding Mattie’s killer.” I squeezed.

He leveled his eyes on me.

“Nothing else matters for now.” I nodded.

Derrick answered with a quick nod.

I spent the rest of the ride back to the clubhouse planning how I’d kill the man who took my brother’s life.

My imagination ran wild.

Grace was gone.

Revenge would keep me warm at night, now.
