I nodded.
James reached his hand out again.
I slid mine in his.
“I’m honored.”
“Gracie.” Mattie yelled from the entrance to the clubhouse. I held up one finger.
“It was great meeting you, both.” I said.
“Nice to meet you, too Grace,” Dana said.
I smiled and turned and headed for the clubhouse.
When I got to the door, I found Mattie inside pacing back and forth.
“What?” I asked as I looked around the clubhouse. The crewmembers partied like they were long lost friends. Papa Scott and the Guardian President stood in a corner heads pressed together, talking. Roe, Justice and a couple of their lieutenants stood near the bar, watching and waiting.
I wanted to meet more of the Lady Guardians.
“What?” I said as I walked a few feet into the clubhouse.
“Get your stuff.” Mattie grabbed my arm. “Dad told me to take you home.”
“No.” I pulled away from him.
“Grace. It wasn’t an request.” He stared me down.
I look toward the ground and bit my lip.
“Come on.” He nudged my arm.
I went and grabbed my bag from behind the bar and pouted as I headed back outside.
Dana and James approached holding hands.
“Hey Gracie.” James said. “You’re not going to come party with us.”
Mattie pulled up on his bike with one of my helmets he must have grabbed from the garage.
“Naw.” I grabbed the helmet. “I’ve being sent home. Just like I always am when it starts to get good.” I frowned at Mattie.
“James.” He held his hand out to Mattie.
“Mathieson Scott” Mattie said his last name, his father’s last name with a deep commanding voice. He puffed out his chest.
I looked at Dana and rolled my eyes.
“This is Dana.” I touch Mattie’s arm.
He nodded in her general direction.
“Let’s go Gracie.” He said.
“Be safe.” Dana said and walked into the party. James followed her.
“Why were you such a dick to them?” I put my helmet on and my arms through the straps of my backpack and climbed on.
