Kate’s face dropped. She grabbed my hand and gave it a reassuringsqueeze.
“Well that’sokay.”
I looked ather.
“Yeah. It’s okay. We have plenty of time?” I squeezed her hand back as we pulled up to thespa.
“Oh my goodness.”Kate walked into the reception area after our spa treatments rolling her neck. “That wasamazing.”
I sat near the fire waiting for her. I might have fallen asleep. My spirit wascalm.
I nodded in agreement. “I could livehere.”
“Come on.” Kate helped me up. “I’mstarving.”
We walked through the streets of Aspen; the center of town was almost empty. The buildings, restaurants and bars all had a warm laid-back vibe to them. We entered a hotel and headed towards therestaurant.
“This place has amazing food.” Katesaid.
A few people were scattered around the restaurant, the warm tones made me sleepy, but my stomachgrowled.
“Now I’m starving too.” I held my stomach. “Can we sit by the fire?” I asked thehostess.
“Of course.” We followed her. “Why don’t you sit back here that way you can get the fireplace and theview?”
The little alcove behind the fireplace had windows allaround.
“A friend of mine might be stopping by if she has time.” Kate said to the hostess. “Can you let her know we’re backhere?”
“Of course Ms.Stone.”
Kate eyes grew wide and she shook her hands outonce.
“I guess she didn’t get the memo.” I sat down and turned toward thefire.
Kate laughed and peeked behind her to see if anyone else recognizedher.
We ordered hot drinks and food. We reached for the warm pretzel bread as soon as the waiter dropped it on thetable.
“Can I ask you a question about that person who doesn’t exist for the next five days?” Iasked.
Kate giggled and took another bite ofbread.
“Sure.”
“How are you so fabulous and normal at the sametime?”
Kate cackled and threw her head back. It was so cute and unattractive at the same time. As I thought about her public persona, it wasn’t that far from the truth. I wanted to write a piece about her, but hadn’t figured out the angle, yet. How was she a young movie star and a regular person at the sametime?
I couldn’t wait to findout.
My thoughts were interrupted by a high-pitched voice singing hername.
“Kate Stone.” We both turned toward the voice. It belonged to a short tiny blond woman, half her faced covered in sunglasses. She wore a fur trimmed leather jacket, black leggings andUggs.
“Brenda.” Kate stood up and hugged her friend. “You madeit.”
“I only have about twenty minutes.” Brenda hugged Kate again. “Not all brides are as amazing asyou.”
