"Just because thecompanyis worth a billion doesn't mean it's his own money though, right?" I'm not sure why, but I suddenly feel defensive about this. "I mean, there must be shareholders and whatever."
Edward snorts. "Nope. It's one hundred percent owned by the five brothers."
My gaze locks onto my fingers in my lap. "Oh. I had no idea."
Edward laughs. "Of course you didn't." He elbows me gently. "I mean, you know I love ya, but that branch of the Wolfe family tree is… Well, the guys are always running around to be the keynote speakers at global tech conferences and stuff. I can't really picture you spending time with that kind of people."
He goes to elbow me again, but this time I block him with the palm of my hand. "You don't know anything about him."
Edward chuckles. “Keep hanging out around here. You'll hear everything at the coffee shop. Or the bakery. People love to talk about ‘those Wolfe brothers’. That's how I found out my own sister was dating the middle one."
He jumps up and takes the four steps to his bedroom before turning back with a serious expression. “I know he's built like a linebacker, but if he does anything you don’t like, you tell me and I'll flatten him. Even if I have to hire ten guys to help me. "
I burst out laughing, and he scowls. Edward is a great guy, but the least violent person I know aside from myself. Still, it's sweet of him to be protective.
"So far he's been a perfect gentleman. But I'll keep you posted."
"Good. Have a good night."
I fold out the couch and get ready for bed, knowing sleep is going to take a while to come.
I hate to admit it, but Edward was right. Kane needs a woman who can keep up with his glamorous global lifestyle. Even if he is a homebody here on the mountain, doesn't he needa partner who can keep up with him in every single facet of his life?
I so want to believe that Kane is the one for me.
But… I might not be the one for him.

Texting Sammie the morning after our date feels a little too soon. I'm certainly not going to pull that three-day crap that some guys insist on. But the least I can do is wait until…lunchtime?
Except that will be when she's eating. I should wait until one-thirty. Maybe one.
Okay, so I'm a weak man. My thumbs fly across the phone at eleven fifty-two am.
Hey, gorgeous. Do you have plans for tonight? If not, may I take you out for a mellow but delicious pizza at Jim's?
Maybe she was waiting by the phone. She answers right away.
Sammie: Sure, I could really go for pizza tonight. Shall I meet you there?
I'd rather pick you up, if that's okay. How’s 5 o'clock?
Sammie: LOL! A bit early for dinner, but fine.
Yeah, it gets busy there around seven. I figure hopefully we can stay incognito if we slip out before then.
If Sammie is shy, she's not going to want the entire town staring at her. Which, since I've never taken a girl on a date to Jim’s before, is bound to happen.
Sammie: Gotcha. Sounds good. See you then.
By the time I pick up Sammie, I'm starting to get worried about this casual pizza date. I've already received texts from two of my brothers and three other friends asking about the new girl I'm seeing.
I would never want to hide her, but I kind of assumed the town didn't need to know who I bought a few groceries with. Silly me.
The only thing about being a Wolfe that I dislike is feeling so observed, and knowing everything we do becomes gossip. Although I guess it's actually pretty wholesome if the talk of the town is something positive like who is dating who. I'm grateful to live in a place without much drama.
