Rage filled us as we picked Bells up, letting her dangle over the edge of the roof. “We want to drop her.”

Blair shook her head. “No. She doesn’t deserve a merciful death. I want her to rot in prison.”

We were confused. “Prison?”

“Roderick, Bells, and Mateo were funneling drug money out of the U.S. and using it to fund terrorist organizations. Luis Diego was their biggest supplier. They were going to bomb LasVegas. I didn’t realize the extent of the operation until they brought me here.”

Our rage increased. “She must die.”

“Not by our hand,” Blair disagreed. “Put her down on the roof.”

So boring.

We dropped her. Roughly.

Bells cried out when her knee hit the concrete, and something cracked. Oops.

“Where are the others?” we asked.

Tinman, Balen’s father. Phyllis, the sassy nurse. Maddog, our president. Manic. Lark. Bianca.

“Everyone is safe.”

Relieved, we knew it was time to let Balen return.

Blair kissed our cheek. It felt soft, like rose petals. “Thank you.”

We blinked, giving Balen a mental high-five.

Blair faded, but we had her kiss. We planned to keep it.

Chapter 15 Creature

Itackled Blair on the mattress, pinning her arms above her head as I circled her wrists. She was so warm and ready for me. Her core pressed upward as she arched her back.

With a roll of my hips, I pressed my cock between her thighs. Fuck. She always turned me on.

“Balen?”

“Yeah, baby?”

She bit her lip, drawing my gaze to her delectable mouth. “I met Drake.”

I figured. When I lost control, I knew he’d taken over. I didn’t doubt that he would protect our woman. “That doesn’t surprise me.”

“He’s different, but I liked him.”

Thatdidsurprise me. “Really?”

“Yes.” She giggled. “He has a wicked sense of humor.”

“Doesn’t he scare you?” I asked, sitting back as I pulled her toward me, sliding her onto my lap. Her hands traced my shoulders and wrapped around the back of my neck.

“No. Drake has a quirky personality. A bit dark, perhaps. He was quite protective of me.”

Ah. I figured out what intrigued her. Lucifer had mentioned something when I signed his contract about the gifts from the spiritual entity that would join me and Drake. “He used the shadows to keep you safe.”

The shadows. They still hovered around the corners of the room, observing, waiting for my instructions. I could feel their desire and excitement. Sometimes they pulsed and broke free, tickling my skin with light caresses. It was. . .odd, but also strangely comforting.
