He looked at me and nodded his head. He got where I was coming from, even though he didn’t like it. As soon as he was about to speak, another voice filled the room.
“Nigga, you better have a good reason for calling me here, especially beca…” Taurus’s sentence trailed off when he walked in the room and saw me sitting on the floor. “What the fuck you doing to my sister, Savior?”
I giggled.
“Shit, that’s her sitting her slow ass down there. That’s that hood shit, she’d rather sit her ass on the floor instead of on the sofa or at the desk.” Savior shook his head.
Taurus walked over to my sofa and grabbed a pillow before passing it to me. “Here. Don’t have my niece or nephew down there because yo’ ass wanna sit on this hard, cold ass floor. Now what is this nigga talking about a fucking inventory?” He passed me the pillow, then reached down and took my plate of fries off the chair I had it sitting on. “You’on need these. Don’t pregnant women retain fluid from fried and greasy foods?”
“Just wait. We’re all about to be in here doing inventory,” Savior said just as Lane walked into my office with a mug.
“And why the hell didn’t you call me?” she questioned through narrow eyes.
“Because she be around this motherfucker acting like she doesn’t need help when she does sometimes.” Amil walked into my office, followed by two guys I didn’t know.
I shook my head. “This is usually an easy and quick job, so I never need help.” I mugged Savior.
He gave me the same menacing stare back. He was serious about me laying around the house and not doing anything that could potentially stress me. I didn’t think he understood thatit was how I functioned. I functioned off thinking and plotting businesswise. I functioned best when I was working.
“If you have one of those chefs make me a chicken piccata with extra capers and thinly sliced chicken, I guess I can count some shit,” Taurus said.
“Must you be so picky?” Lane looked at him with her face screwed up.
“But yo’ ass is about to order hot wings with extra sauce.”
I put my hands out for somebody to help me up. Of course Savior helped me because, as he said, when I sat on the floor, it stressed his kid out. So he was definitely in a hurry to help me. “Since somebody called in the cavalry, I guess the least he could do is pay for everyone’s meals.”
His face went blank as confusion swept his features.
“That’s all you had to say. Now lemme get to counting for this lil’ break. Where do you want me to start counting, boss lady?” one of the guys I didn’t know asked.
A small chortle escaped my lips before I pointed over to where the new boxes were. “You’ll need this. It should be accurate because It’s new, but sometimes, the company will short a bottle or two by mistake.”
“Aw naw. I’ma an alcoholic. I don’t even like the sound of that.” He shook his head like he was offended.
The room erupted into laughter. I just nodded my head.
Once I gave everybody a task, I also went around and asked what they wanted to eat. Before I went to put the order in, I walked over to Savior and held my hand out.
“What?” he had his sleeves rolled up, and he was currently carrying boxes of alcohol over to Lane.
“Card.”
He had a smirk on his face. “Why yeen ask me what I wanted to eat?”
“Because I already know what you eat, baby.” I smiled sweetly at him.
He reached into his pocket and pulled his wallet out. Seconds later, he was handing me his card. “Order extra for tonight, because I know yo’ ass ain’t cooking after we pick up Baby K.”
With much more help than I thought I needed, we were all done with the entire inventory after about four hours. The only thing that needed to be done was putting the numbers in, but I left that for the morning manager.
“I almost had Beck throw you in the trunk and bring yo’ ass back to the building.” His head was on my lap, and we were in the back seat of the car on our way home.
“No way you thought that would’ve been a good idea.” I peered down at him. We were supposed to be going to get Kale, but she wanted to stay with her grandmother.
“It was, considering the fact that you should’ve had yo’ ass at the crib in the first place.”
“I just don’t know how to sit around. It’s like I need to have something to do.” I looked out of the window, then down at him.
