This shit right here was making me a sap ass nigga. It was almost like I couldn’t get a grip on what I was feeling for Regancy. I had already fucked around and told her that I loved her, even though I didn’t plan to. I mean, I knew what I was feeling, and I had known for a minute now, but that didn’t mean I was ready to tell her. Then here I was, watching her as she got dressed for this dinner thing that Lane had put together for her. She was simply fucking beautiful, and that alone made me want to stay in her space. The thing was her beauty wasn’t only physical or outside. It was her vibration, her aura, and all that spiritual shit.
“Why are you staring, creep?” she asked.
I chuckled. “I was wondering if my child would inherit that big ass forehead you got.”
She shook her head. “You could have said some sweet shit like ‘baby, you look good’. But nah, you had to come for my head when your shit damn sure isn’t small. I bet you were one of those kids they prayed would grow into their head.”
“Fuck outta here.” I stood from my bed and walked over, standing behind her in the mirror. “You wanna say that to my face?”
She smiled and tilted her face up toward mine. “I said?—”
I grabbed her neck and pulled her as close as I could before I mashed my lips into hers. “You wanna be a problem, but yeen even like that, baby.” Then I pecked her big ass forehead before walking toward my closet. I grabbed what I bought her andmade my way back into the room. I set the bag on the bed next to her and stood back.
“I thought I said no gifts.” She stood up and walked toward the mirror to put on her earrings.
I took a seat next to the bag and watched her with a grin on my face. “I thought I told yo’ ass this was my money, so I’d spend it however the fuck I wanted to.”
The mug she gave me was comical, but I didn’t give a fuck. She was forever thinking about everyone but herself, so it was my job to think about her or probably just make her think about herself.
“Now come open these fucking gifts, we ain’t got all day.”
Without another word, she turned around and walked in my direction with a small smile on her face. I liked to see them there, but I loved to be the reason she had them.See what I mean? Regancy was turning a nigga into a straight-up sap.
My eyes never left her face while she pulled jewelry box after jewelry box from the bag. I swear I didn’t know what I was doing at the store with Taurus. This nigga kept pointing shit out, and I just nodded for Paul, the jeweler that he used, to add it to my tab. I had never done shit like this, so I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing. After a while, I realized Taurus didn’t either, because hours after the trip, he was clowning me in my office, and he had the nerve to tell me I should’ve just had roses delivered. It was safe to say at this point the blind was leading the blind.
“Baby, you bought all of this?” She had that emotional thing going, and I couldn’t read her. I hoped she liked all this shit that I aimlessly bought.
“Nah. I stole it,” I responded smartly. “How the fuck else would I get it, Regancy?” I hated when she asked dumb-ass questions. Right now, all I wanted to know was if I did good. I hated this feeling like I was trying to please her. I wasn’t used to feeling like I needed to please somebody or even give a fuck whatthey thought. I had never felt this shit before, and now I knew why I avoided love and all this extra shit for so long.
She didn’t say anything else. Instead, she climbed into my lap and pressed her lips against mine. “I’ll look over your smart-ass mouth, as it’s more of a defense mechanism when you feel vulnerable. And before you disagree with what I’m saying, I want you to know I love all of it and that I’m grateful for everything that you do for me.”
She kept her eyes on mine the entire time while she pushed her face into mine. Regancy made a nigga get lost in her. What drew me to her was my inability to focus on anything but her when she was near.
The knock at my door interrupted what was about to go down in this room. She pulled back and looked at me with this goofy grin before standing to her feet. “I’ll be out in a minute, Lane.”
“You said that about thirty minutes ago. I hope Savior isn’t in there distracting you.” Lane’s voice sounded from outside the door.
The moment she said that, Regancy looked at me with a smirk. “Nah. He’s helping me get dressed.” We both knew that was the furthest thing from the truth because I was about ready to help her get all the way undressed. Then we would be saying fuck that dinner.
Throughout dinner I couldn’t keep my eyes from across the table at Regancy. I loved to see her happy, and I hated that I had to slip out of here for a minute. I wasn’t mad about it, though. I was handling this so she never had to face the motherfucker who took from her what wasn’t his to take. It was what it was, andI’d do whatever necessary to make sure she and lil’ mama were good.
“You want me to go handle that, boss?” Amil’s voice caught my attention. I hadn’t realized that I was staring out into space until I blinked and looked up at him.
“Nope. Go tell Beck to meet me at the door.” I stood and walked over to where Regancy stood at the countertop stuffing endless spoons of pudding in her mouth. Once I reached her, she looked up at me with full jaws and questioning eyes. “Chipmunk.”
She swallowed the pudding and mugged me. “Don’t be an ass. Where are you going?”
A smirk crossed my face. “How do you know I’m going somewhere?”
“Because Beck and my brother are standing at the door, and you’re over here with theI’ll be right backexpression.”
“Damn. She peeped that shit like a ho—” Taurus’s voice sounded off from the side of me.
“Taurus, mind your business,” Lane reminded him. Her voice was stern as fuck, which meant he’d told her he was slipping out too.
None of that broke the intense eye contact that I now shared with Regancy. She was pissed, and her eyes were doing that shifting shit. It was almost like she was wondering if she wanted to nut up or not. She decided against it, maybe because she saw the seriousness in my eyes.
“How long will you?—”
