I wasn’t able to respond, because Jeff opened the door that led into what I assumed was the second level of the club. It was too loud for me to speak, so I just held on to Savior’s hand while he led me into the crowded space. The entire time we moved through the booths, all I heard was people calling Savior’s name and trying to get his attention. It wasn’t just a few people; it was everybody that we passed. They were treating him like some type of god or royalty that they wanted to see. It was so odd to me. When we finally reached our destination, he stepped into a section, never letting go of my hand. We took our seats at the empty booth, and he nodded at Beck, who seemed to appear out of thin air.
I felt him lean into my space before he spoke. “What are you drinking, Reg?”
I looked around before shrugging. “Whatever you are.”
He raised an eyebrow before nodding. He wasn’t able to order, because before he could call out to Beck, a female stepped into the section. She looked at Savior with the biggest smile, but it smeared off of her face the moment her eyes landed on me.
“Our section is over there.” She pointed while smiling at Savior. “And I didn’t know that you were bringing a plus one.” She tried to force a smile on her face, but my presence bothered her. I could tell by the way she looked me over numerous times within the same fifteen seconds.
He kissed the side of my face as I grinned. Females always had to be distasteful. She didn’t even get a response from me. I had heard the thirstiness in her voice the day she called his phone to invite him to the thing. I could tell she had high expectations for when he showed up that night. Too bad my presence spoiled that.
He looked toward Beck and put up two fingers before his eyes went to old girl. “Where is your broth?—”
“If that ain’t my nigga, Savior!” A loud voice broke old girl’s intense stare. She was still doing that thing that most basic bitches did when they tried to compare themselves to another woman.
Savior stood and greeted old boy before sitting back down while old boy sat across from us.
“I see you’re doing it real big out here,” old boy said, and I felt his eyes on me as I looked out at the overly crowded dance floor. I looked back over just in time to see Savior lick his lips as he took me in himself, leaning closer into my space.
“Baby, this is Duce. We grew up together. Duce, this is my girl.” Again, he kissed the side of my face. He did that a lot, almost like it was his way of making sure I was right where he left me the last time his lips touched my temple.
I nodded politely, but I never offered him my hand. It was something about him and the way he looked that told me that something wasn’t right about him. I was an excellent judge of character, and the one right before us was giving off all types of flawed vibes. It was something else though. I just couldn’t put my finger on it.
For a while, Savior gave Duce minimal communication, but just like the asshole he was, as soon as he felt we’d hit thirty minutes, he raised his hand and signaled Beck while Jeff stood waiting on us.
“You gone so soon, lord?” Duce asked, leaning over the pillar that separated the section. By then, he had definitely had a bit to drink, so his words were slurred. He also couldn’t hide the hate he had in his eyes for Savior.
Savior nodded. “It was good catching up with you. I’ll catch you another time.” He stood and waited on me before weproceeded to exit the booth. Then we left out the same way we entered, through the back.
Once we were in the comforts of his back seat, he pulled me near, while loosening his tie a little. “Taurus was right, but I had to see that for myself.” For the rest of the ride, he was so deep in his thoughts with cloudy eyes. Usually, I knew what to say to people to calm or ease whatever was on their minds, but at that moment, I didn’t know what to say to him, because I didn’t even know what the hell was going on.
LANE
A week had passed, and Taurus was tired of my excuses and the fact that I was dragging my feet. At that point, it was now or never when it came to the situation with Bash. So like any other day, I went to work and had a few court hearings before I ended up there. I was standing in front of Bash’s door, holding the key that he’d given me years ago. It was time for me to face this, because I believed Taurus when he said he’d kill Sabastian. Then Sabastian made it no easier with the constant calls, but then again, as far as he knew, I was still his fiancée even though I’d been so busy with work as of lately.
After standing my scary ass at his door for all of fifteen minutes, I finally decided to rip the bandage off. I needed to get it over with so he could move on with his life. I jabbed the key into the lock hole before twisting it from side to side and unlocking the door. Soon, I had the door open, and I was stepping into the place I hadn’t been in a while. It was different, and it had a more feminine décor to it than I remembered. If I weren’t there to break things off with him, then I’d surly be getting his decorator’s number.
“Hmph.” I looked around for a few seconds before a sound caught my ears. Then I glanced down at the floor, and there were clothes leading toward the master bedroom. I probably would’ve turned around and left had I not been so nosy. I continued to follow the trail of clothes until I reached Bash’s slightly open door where the sounds were coming from. It was the sound of masculine grunting and the begging of someone to go harder. My inquisitiveness got the best of me, and I pushed the door open. What I thought I’d see wasn’t what I saw. My jaw hit the ground the moment I laid eyes on my brother, who I hadn’t spoken to in months, leaned across Bash’s bed while Bash plowed into him from behind. They were in too much of a euphoric state to pay me any mind or even notice that I was there. I didn’t know how long I was standing there before the irony of the situation caused me to bust up laughing. I mean, there I was, feeling guilty about what I was doing when that man was fucking my brother, and there was no telling how long it’d been going on. Sabastian was no victim after all, and neither of us were right in it. We were both settling.
I guess my laughter got their attention because Sabastian looked at me with pure embarrassment on his face as he yanked back from my brother and tried to cover up. Too bad I had already seen it all. “Lane, it isn’t what you th?—”
“Yeah right, buddy. Don’t stop on my account.” I turned to leave the apartment, but I heard Sabastian behind me.
“It just happened. Lane, I’m not g?—”
That made me turn around. I pointed my manicured finger in his face and decided to give him a piece of my mind because that was definitely a pet peeve of mine. “Don’t do that. Don’t you dare sit here and tell me you aren’t what you are. I just watched you fucking my brother, your frat brother, so yes, you are. Own up to what you are and embrace it.” With that, I turned around and walked out of the door without another word. I was so gratefulthat I didn’t send my car service away, because I couldn’t get out of his place fast enough. Once I reached the car, I pulled my phone out to dial the first person who hit my mind. Regancy always answered for me.
“Yes, honey bunches of oats.” She always came up with cute ass pet names. I guess that was mom shit.
“Where are you? Home or work? Because we gotta talk over vino with a very high percentage of alcohol.”
She giggled. “Oh, Lord, but I’m home, and I already have the bottle.”
“I’m on my way. I’ll call you when I’m at the door.”
“Okay.”
Once I hung up the phone from her, I had to call my mother. I always told her everything. Before she answered, I gave my driver the address to Regancy’s before peering at the phone.
