Hudson almost dove for cover before he recognized the familiar profile.
The people inside were his teammates.
The SUV screeched to a stop beside him, and Atlas leaned out the back passenger window. “Need a ride?”
Hudson was in the back seat before the vehicle fully stopped moving. Jake sat behind the wheel, already accelerating before Hudson’s door closed. Maverick also sat up front.
“How’d you find me?” Hudson asked, breathing hard.
“Been tracking you since you went dark,” Maverick said. “We were about to breach Ravenscroft’s estate when you came over the wall. Colton told us what happened.”
“The shipment . . .” Hudson said. “It’s arriving at five, not seven. Ravenscroft moved up the timeline. I’m not sure if Colton overheard that part or not. I need to call him.”
Atlas handed him a phone, and Hudson immediately dialed Colton.
“Hudson.” Colton’s voice was tight. “Fill me in.”
He did. Then Hudson asked, “What’s happening at the warehouse?”
“Nothing. We’ve been keeping an eye on it, but it’s empty—no shipments, no personnel, nothing except old manifests and empty containers. Whatever Ravenscroft is planning, Warehouse 7 was a diversion.”
Hudson’s stomach dropped. “Then where’s the real target?”
“We’re working on—hold on.” Muffled voices, keyboard clicks. “The helicopter. Ravenscroft’s helicopter landed at Norfolk International Terminals.”
The port. Not an airport. Not safety.
The actual attack site.
“Why would her father take Natalie right into the middle of it?” Hudson’s voice hardened.
“We don’t know his play yet,” Colton said.
“I know she’s in danger.” And that was all Hudson really needed to know. That and the fact that they might need her in order to stop whatever was happening, in order to convince her father to change his mind.
As if reading his mind, Jake changed course and headed toward the port.
“There’s one more thing,” Colton said. “We sent C J to meet Jonathan Rutter.”
He sucked in a breath. “And?”
“He never showed up.”
“Do you have his location?”
“No, that’s the thing. He’s disappeared. We don’t know what that means yet. But I wanted you to be aware.”
“Thanks.”
Hudson wasn’t sure what was going on or how Jonathan fit with all this.
And they were running out of time to find the answers.
CHAPTER
SIXTY-FIVE
“Hudson, the rest of the team is twenty minutes behind you,” Colton continued. “I’ve called the FBI in as well. Donotengage until we have full tactical support. If you do, it will be a bloodbath.”
