“It’s nothing like that,” I scoff. I was aiming for airy, but it sounds forced to my ears. “I made the mistake of checking my email and saw that I had a really big rush order come in.”

“And you have to start tonight?” His eyebrow is even higher now. I’m pretty sure he’s not buying this. I bite my lip before catching myself and smile wider.

“It’s just that it’s a repeat client and he’s kind of demanding. I want to get home and see what he’s got me doing this time.” He nods grimly and moves to his door, grabbing his keys.

“It’s late. I’ll walk you to your car.” I turn to the door and reach for the locks but he gently pushes my hand out of the way. The electricity when we touch is still there, and I see him clench his jaw.

“It’s no problem, really. I can–” He cuts me off with an expression that leaves no room for argument.

“I’ll walk you to your car.”

Safely inside my apartment, I slouch to the floor against the door. Khan runs over and makes himself at home in my lap like a bored king. Just as his deep purring starts to soothe my foul mood, a chirp from my cell phone sends him running to his perch in the living room.

Adam (Champagne Flutes)

Adam (Champagne Flutes):You make it home safe?

So let me get this right. I run out of his apartment like it’s on fire and not only does he insist on walking me to my car, but now he’s…checking on me? In my experience, men don’t react well when you give them an epic case of blue balls. His mom must have raised him right.

Adam (Champagne Flutes)

Safe and sound. Thanks for checking.

Adam (Champagne Flutes):Good. Now you can tell me why you ran away…again.

Ugh. I’m not sure I can. I get up and kick my shoes off on the way to my bedroom.

Adam (Champagne Flutes)

Adam (Champagne Flutes):You don’t think I really believe you had to run home at midnight for some specialorder, do you?

I dive face first into my bed fully clothed and pull the comforter all the way over my head.

Adam (Champagne Flutes)

Hmm…I guess not.

Adam (Champagne Flutes):So? What happened? One second you're in my lap, and the next you’re practically clawing at the locks to get out of my apartment.

I raise an eyebrow at that. Dramatic, much?

Adam (Champagne Flutes)

Clawing at the locks? Really, Adam?

Adam (Champagne Flutes):That’s what I saw. So tell me what happened.

Adam (Champagne Flutes):Did you not like what we did?

My traitorous pussy pulses in pleasure justthinkingabout what we did. From what I felt earlier, he's packing some serious heat too and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t bummed to be in my bed instead of Adam’s right now.

I sigh and come out from under the covers to respond. Well, honestyisthe best policy.

Adam (Champagne Flutes)

I loved what we did.

I can imagine Adam's frustrated sigh.
