“I can’t wait to walk around everything tonight,” Sion says.

Sion still looks pale. He’s not been out of bed much since his first migraine attack. We all know he went and saw his neurologist and that he had some scans, but none of us know the results.

I really want to find out what’s wrong with him, and more than once I go to send my magic out so it can tell me, but I don’t, I don’t want to invade his privacy.

“We can walk it together,” Cassie says to him.

Sion nods. “We can.”

“We’ll be out and about playing with magic tonight,” I say happily.

“I must say though, as much as I’ve enjoyed the haunted farm, I’ve missed going to the bunker,” Justice says.

None of us have been to the bunker since the Halloween Farm opened. We didn’t want to chance someone coming down into our bunker.

“You’re only saying that because of your lava dragon,” Nix says, grinning.

“True. But now I’ve got to run. See you all later,” he says, pulling Alfred into a kiss before rushing out.

“Doobs are you ready?” Nix asks her.

“I need my shoes,” she says, jumping up and running out to get them.

Nix stands and tidies their breakfast stuff, before kissing Cam goodbye and taking Nora off to school.

The cut on her head is now healed and there isn’t even a scar. Got to love magic.

I’m opening the shop today as Pa has the day off and Alfred is coming in at lunchtime. As it’s Halloween the bookshop is closing early. In fact, all the shops are.

Because the Halloween Farm is finishing tonight, Trick or Treating is between 5pm and 7pm, so children can have fun begging for sweets and then go to the fair. It’s also fancy-dress night and the town pumpkin carving results.

This will be my first year taking part in any Trick or Treating since I left home. When I was in my little house I would put a few decorations out, and a cauldron filled with sweets by my front door. That way, I wasn’t up and down opening the door all evening.

I finish my breakfast. “Right, I’m off, Sal do you want a lift?”

“Please, thanks,” Sal replies downing his coffee.

“Can I grab a lift?” Temp asks.

“You can. Anyone who wants a lift, I’m leaving now,” I say, standing up and giving Adhan a quick kiss bye. “See you all later.”

It’s just the three of us leaving, my car is already running as when I came downstairs this morning, I went outside and put my car on to defrost.

“Thanks for the lift,” Temp says. “It’s too cold to walk.”

“It really is. I wonder if we’ll have snow this year,” Sal says.

“I hope we do. I imagine the town looks lovely covered in snow,” I can just imagine it now.

“It already looks amazing, with the whole town decorated for Halloween,” Temp says.

It’s true, the town has been decorated to within an inch of its life. I’ve never seen a town so decorated for Halloween before. The town witches traditionally decorate, something we were happy to let them do.

“Hey Temp, has Cassie said anything about Sion’s hospital visit or anything?” Sal asks.

“No. Cass is worried. He tried to get Sion to talk to him about it, but he said he’s not ready.”

I park the car and turn off the engine before looking at Temp. “It’s bad news then,” I guess.
