The days of avoiding his touch at night were long over.
Edek returned and gathered her close, tucking her head beneath his. He stroked her hair until she drifted into a peaceful sleep that didn’t include a single dream about Earth or snowdrifts or prison cells.
You’re special to me.
Instead, his tender words haunted her dreams.
Chapter 17
Edek’s life was changing, and the bitterness and hatred that once ruled his heart were rapidly becoming a distant memory. He still visited his wife and sons each day, kissing their cold grave markers, but a growing peace settled on him each time he sat amidst the purple dust flowers in the field where their bodies rested.
He couldn’t change the past and bring them back, but he could honor their lives by moving on with his.
Draken often stared at him with a knowing look, his kind eyes beaming as he gazed from him to Betsy. During one such look at dinnertime, Edek smiled and nodded, confirming his brother’s suspicions that he’d grown to care for his little human slave.
Sumlin District’s warriors resumed training under Edek’s command, and he found he slipped easily into his new position. Over five hundred men arrived at the training grounds each morning, and they practiced with their weapons for an unknown battle.
As word of the Kall’s deadliness spread around the galaxy, fewer species were willing to risk provoking them.
Though Edek had seen many battles in his day, he couldn’t help but wonder if the younger Kall warriors under his command might only see a handful of battles. He’d been conditioned to hunger for war and dominance, but he wasn’t disheartened by the idea of less conflict.
A battle would take him away from Betsy, and he anticipated coming home to her each evening more and more.
Passion ruled their nights.
She stripped off her clothing and crawled under the sheets to await his arrival at bedtime. She always obediently draped herself across his lap for her nightly spanking, often in eager anticipation. She would squirm over his knee as he reddened her bottom, and he would delve into her folds to discover her dripping, wet, and swollen.
On many occasions, he would keep her in place over his thighs and splay her cheeks apart, spreading the moisture from her inner core across her little asshole before pressing inside. He loved to feel her tensing up around his finger as he pumped in and out of her secret hole.
Exploring her body and pushing her boundaries set his loins ablaze.
Of course, it wasn’t just the sex he enjoyed. He enjoyed Betsy’s mere presence. They often spoke for hours at a time, exchanging tales from their childhood and discussing their cultural differences and similarities.
Humans were strikingly similar to Kall, more so than he’d thought before.
Their long talks left him groggy many mornings, but he rose at an early hour nonetheless and headed for the training grounds. While he adored Betsy and treasured their time together, he took his position as commander seriously and never shirked his duties.
Which was why he reluctantly admitted a Kall general into the house one evening. He’d been surprised when General Amak had requested a meeting with him, and even more stunned to learn the powerful Kall leader wished to visit him at home.
And so, Edek had invited the general over for dinner. He didn’t have much of a choice. To not invite a superior to dinner after they requested a private meeting at your home was unheard of. Even though Edek felt uneasy having another Kall male around Betsy, he could not go so strongly against tradition.
The meal began pleasantly enough, though General Amak’s interest in Betsy soon angered Edek, to the point that he was forced to clench his fists under the table and take a few deep breaths to keep himself from jumping across the table and pummeling his superior to death.
The general snarled. “A human?” he asked in English, clearly intending for Betsy to understand him. “You really have a human in your home?”
Edek noticed Betsy stiffen, though she continued placing the serving trays on the table, then she moved to her place along the wall, where she stood holding a pitcher of wine, ready to refill their glasses when required.
“She is a valued slave,” Edek replied, also in English, and his tone came out sharper than he’d intended. He needed to restrain his fury with the general, lest the man get any indication that Edek harbored feelings for the human, or realized that she wasn’t treated as harshly as most slaves.
“A valued slave?” General Amak scoffed, still speaking in Betsy’s native tongue. “I have fifty slaves in my home, and I wouldn’t call any of them valuable. They serve a purpose and that is all. And if they step out of line, a good beating usually does the trick. Tell me, must you beat your human slave often? Or is she naturally well-behaved?”
Edek had to force himself not to aim Betsy a comforting glance. Such a look would not go unnoticed by the general. He hated this. And hefluxxingdespised this general. He cleared his throat. “Forgive me, General, but I fail to see how my slave is any of your concern. Now, is there a reason you wished to meet with me this evening?” He was done being polite.
The general glared at him, then broke out into bawdy laughter. Once he finished chortling, he gulped down an entire glass of wine. He lifted his empty glass and wiggled it in Betsy’s direction. Edek heard Betsy’s audible gulp as she approached the general to refill his glass. Thankfully, the general didn’t look at or touch Betsy as she filled his wine glass. If he had, Edek was certain he would’ve committed murder on the spot.
“I’ve heard stories of your foul temper and your bluntness, Commander Edek, and it amuses me to see just how true they are. I did not intend to anger you.”
“I’m not angry,” Edek lied.I’m fluxxing livid, and you have no idea how close you are to dying right now, General.
