She drew in a quick breath but remained still. He glanced up and discovered she’d closed her eyes and was biting her bottom lip.

He gave her ten more light slaps, centering the blows on her clit and watching it swell up before his eyes.

After the last one, he licked her punished parts, savoring her taste and loving how big her clit felt against his tongue.

Playtime was over. His ache to sink inside her was officially unbearable. Pressing her legs back, he nudged his cock against her entrance and met her eyes before thrusting inside in one quick motion. He gripped her hips and pulled out almost the whole way before slamming into her again.

So wet, so warm, so perfect.

“Mine,” he rasped, and set a relentless pace as he thrust in and out. He fucked her hard until her pussy contracted around him and pushed him over the edge. He spent his seed deep inside her, holding her tight as his cock finished pulsing and the last wave of his release dissipated.

Fiona reached for him, and he gathered her up in his arms, cradling her in his lap. She smiled lazily up at him. “I do love you.”

He stared at her in disbelief at first and then gave himself a mental shake. She belonged to him, no matter what feelings either of them harbored for the other. Even if they both resented one another, she would still be his forever. But he didn’t resent her, not even close. He would die a thousand agonizing deaths to see her safe and happy. “I love you too, little one.”

Chapter 29

Fiona rushedinto the dining room just in time for breakfast. She planted a quick kiss on Merokk’s cheek before taking her seat across from him. Breakfast was already spread on the table, an assortment of Kall fruit and, to her surprise, some traditional American breakfast foods. “Pancakes, bacon, eggs? Really?” Even though Merokk had once mentioned the cook was skilled at making Earth dishes, this was the first time she’d seen such food on the table.

“I’ve decided to make some changes around here.” He smiled and reluctantly placed a pancake on his plate, grimacing at it like a child staring down a serving of spinach.

Laughing, Fiona eagerly reached for the eggs and bacon. “It’s not so bad, I promise. A lot of your Kall food tastes quite similar to our native fair.” She winked and took a bite of bacon, and the crisp, burned meat suddenly reminded her of home—of her mother. Her spirits darkened for a moment, but she quickly reminded herself that Merokk had promised to take her for a visit with her mother soon. Her heart lifted at the thought.

Breakfast was delicious, and Fiona savored every bite. The only times she’d eaten Earth food since leaving the horrible settlement had been at awkward White House dinners and the occasional lunch out with Layla. She took a sip of coffee and peered at her husband. He cleared his throat and she placed her mug down, waiting for him to speak.

“I’m expecting a family member of mine to arrive this evening. Can you oversee the servants’ preparation of one of the guest rooms on the second floor? I want everything to be perfect.”

Her heart sank a little, but Fiona tried her best not to let it show. After all that had happened of late, she’d hoped for time alone with her husband. More time for healing.

“How long will your relative stay with us?” she asked.

“Indefinitely. Is that a problem?”

She shook her head. “No, no, not a problem at all.” She forced a smile. “I’ll make sure everything’s ready.”

“Good. I have to leave now, but I’ll be home in time for dinner.” He stood and walked to her side of the table. Fiona accepted his gentle goodbye kiss and watched him leave.

She finished her coffee, then headed for the second floor. No sense bothering the servants. She was capable of preparing a guest bedroom without any help.

After choosing the largest of the available rooms, she set about opening the heavy curtains at each window. Bright beams of sunlight spilled across the bedroom, and it was obvious no one had dusted here in quite a while.

Once she fetched cleaning supplies from the hallway closet, she set to work, happily humming as she became lost in her thoughts, most of which centered on Merokk and her utter relief that the truth was finally out. What a burden, to withhold her very identity from the man she loved. But it was over now, and it was time to move on.

Hours later, an exhausted Fiona stripped her clothes off in the master bathroom. She drew a bath and soaked her aching muscles for a good half hour. Everything was perfect with the guest room, just as Merokk had requested, but man oh man was she tired. She swirled her hands through the bubbles and wished a certain Kall warrior was in the tub with her. Aching muscles or not, she’d be all over him right now. Smiling, she drained the water and dried off. The Kall was insatiable, and nighttime was fast approaching.

She chose a simple long, silky gray dress. If a relative of Merokk’s was visiting, she wanted to show respect in traditional Kall colors, even if she wasn’t entirely in favor of the visit. After brushing out her hair and leaving it to its natural waves, she headed to the great room to await the imminent arrival of the guest but sincerely hoped her husband returned home first. She passed the time by daydreaming, letting her mind fall into memories both good and bad, and imagining how the circumstances of her life could’ve turned out otherwise if she’d made a different decision at this point or that point in her life. And what if her father hadn’t turned into a drunk? What would her life have been like if he’d helped her mother instead of blaming her for a medical condition she had no control over?

She sighed and stood up, pacing the room. It didn’t matter. He was likely dead. Even if he wasn’t and she knew his location, she wouldn’t make the faintest effort to contact him.

But Merokk didn’t abandon me. Even when he learned the truth, he didn’t leave me. He accepted me.

Glancing out the window into the garden, she smiled at the rosebushes growing among the plants native to the Kall homeworld. Another one of the changes Merokk had decided to make around here. All the pain, all the hard decisions in her life leading up to this point suddenly seemed worth it. The path of her life followed a road to Merokk, and she was proud to call herself his wife.

A noise behind her caught her attention. Praying it was Merokk, Fiona spun around. Her heart almost stopped beating. It couldn’t be.“Mom?”

Janie Lockhart beamed at her from across the room and rushed toward her with open arms. “Fiona, my dear.”

“Mom!” Fiona wrapped her arms around her mother. After so many months of worry, the woman she’d sacrificed much to protect was right here in her home.
