Chapter 9
AMIRA
As I run faster, one thing quickly becomes clear: Vlann D’Zorr really does live in the middle of nowhere. Though I dare not run on the gravel road leading away from his residence, I run parallel to it inside the thick forest, my hiking boots laced tight and my resupplied pack secured to my back. This morning, when Vlann wasn’t paying attention, I swiped a few food items from the kitchen and filled two water canteens, hoping the provisions would be enough to assist me in getting down the mountain if I decided to attempt escape.
His driveway goes on for miles and miles. Judging by the ache in my side and my growing breathlessness, I think I’ve run at least three miles already. If I can reach civilization, I can grab a room at a hotel and lay low for a few days.
After that, I’ll have to face my family. And Gregory Whitworth. I can’t avoid the inevitable, and I know Gregory will insist on seeing me. My parents will let him into the house even if I say I don’t want to talk to him. They adore him.
God, they’re going to hate me when I return.
They’re going to know how bad I am.
I’d originally planned to honor my deal with Vlann, until simply being around the man became unbearable. Last night, when he’d visited me in my room, I’d been certain he was about to spank me. But to my relief, not only did he understand what had happened with the dishwasher, but he’d smiled a smile that had melted my heart—only to snap angrily at me before locking the door. Breakfast this morning had been painfully awkward.
His invitation to take a walk around the lake had surprised me. At first, I had wanted to accept, because the prospect of spending time in his company lifted my spirits. But then I’d remembered how he’d locked me in my room and treated me with sudden coldness, and I had refused to accompany him. My refusal, of course, had angered him.
I had been shocked when I managed to open the window using a magnet I’d found in his office, which I’d swiped earlier in the day, thinking it might prove useful, as I remember my father once telling me large magnets could sometimes be used to disable security systems. With the window lock disabled, I hadn’t wasted any time in crawling out and running as fast as I could. I’m a fast runner and the lake is situated a good distance from his house. If I can put some distance between us, I’ll stand a real chance of escaping.
But a sudden shout causes me to falter. I save myself from tripping and turn just long enough to glimpse Vlann closing in on me. Oh no. I’m so stunned by how fast he’s running that I freeze in place like a complete idiot. As soon as he reaches me, he rips my backpack off and presses me down on the forest floor, just as he did the first time I ran from him in the woods, and secures the manacles around my wrists behind my back. My stomach flips.
He’s caught me and now he’s restrained me. I’m at his complete mercy, and, judging by the curses escaping his mouth, I don’t think he’s feeling very merciful at the moment. My stomach flips again when I detect something big and hard pressing against my bottom. His cock. Despite his obvious anger, he’s aroused. I’m both terrified and hopelessly turned on, though I try to focus on the fact that I’m also furious with him.
“Let me go, asshole!” I writhe beneath him on the forest floor, desperate to escape. Dirt and little pebbles and weeds stick to my body. Fallen twigs scratch at my legs as I continue to struggle. I know it’s useless, as he’s so much larger and stronger than me, but I can’t simply surrender without a fight.
“Not a chance,” he growls into my ear, pressing harder against me. Again, I feel the hugeness of his erection.
“Get the fuck off me!” I scream, attempting to kick my legs up to strike him in the back.
“We are going back to my residence,” he says, his voice cold and furious. “Are you going to walk, or should I throw you over my shoulder?”
The thought of being carried over Vlann’s shoulder angers me further. Damn him. Why must he be so fast? I’m pretty sure I had several miles on him, judging by how long he’d been gone at the lake before I’d crawled out the window. How did he catch up to me so quickly? I’m embarrassed that he caught me without any difficulty on foot when he could have easily taken his hovercar. I really don’t stand a chance against him.
“I’ll walk myself,” I say insolently, and stand up with his help. He makes no attempt to remove the manacles and I don’t bother asking. I try to shake the forest floor from my face, but it’s no use. With my hands secured behind my back, I angrily stomp toward the house with Vlann trailing behind. It’s humiliating, walking in front of him after he’s caught me, especially when I suspect he’ll punish me once we get back to the house. My bottom clenches involuntarily and I repress a shiver.
The return trip to his house takes nearly an hour, as we’re walking uphill and I’m so exhausted from my escape attempt that I can’t move very fast. To my relief, Vlann doesn’t rush me. He also carries my backpack and orders me to stop twice for a quick rest and a drink of water. Since my hands are secured, he holds a canteen to my lips and tilts it. Another humiliation.
Finally, when his house comes into sight, I’m so happy I almost start crying. We’re here. Finally. But I know I probably won’t get a chance to rest right away. Though he’s not rushing me or being rough with me anymore, I can sense the waves of anger rolling off him.
Once we’re inside, I turn to face Vlann with my head held high, resolving not to cry. I won’t give him the satisfaction. But being brave is easier said than done. Vlann looms over me like an angry giant, his blue eyes smoldering with untamed rage.
“I found the magnet. Why did you open the window?” he demands, grabbing me by both arms and shaking me.
“Why do you think?” I retort, lifting my chin higher.
His eyes flash, and his grip tightens. “We had a deal!” The volume of his voice causes me to flinch.
“I don’t care,” I say, looking away.
“Attempting escape was a foolish thing to do, Amira,” he says sternly. “As I’ve told you before, it would take you two full days to reach the nearest house on foot, and it’s a long hover drive to the nearest town. If you trip the alarm while I’m out, I know about it. If you want to go home, fine. I’ll take you home today if you wish, but I won’t let you back out of our deal and endanger yourself in the process.”
Endanger myself? I go on day hikes all the time, as it’s one of my favorite pastimes—mostly because it gets me away from Gregory for a full day. Escaping this mountain Vlann lives on couldn’t be any different. Before I can protest, he drags me toward the guestroom. When he removes the manacles and pushes me inside, only to not follow me in, I’m confused. Doesn’t he intend to punish me?
“I need to clean up. I suggest you do the same,” he says. “But know this, Amira Swan: when I return, I’m going to give you a severe spanking on your bare bottom. You will regret disobeying me, little human, I promise you that.”
And with that, he shuts the door with a thud and I soon hear a faint beeping noise as he locks me in. I stand frozen, nervous over my impending punishment, yet also increasingly excited. No matter how hard I try, I can’t calm the heated pulses in my nether region, or the full body flush that overtakes me.
When I finally snap out of my trance, I hastily jump into the shower to wash away the remnants of the forest floor. Dirt pools at the bottom of the tub as I scrub myself down. If I’m not cleaned up by the time Vlann returns, I fear his reaction.
