“That’s my sweet human,” he said with a surprising level of affection.

She enjoyed his tenderness.

If I’m forced to break his rules, please don’t let him ever find out.

And please, please, please, help me make him love me.

Chapter 6

It was late afternoon when they glided through the gates of the compound. Varro still had an arm around Caylee, holding her close. Though he hadn’t wished to take a bride so soon after Bersenna’s betrayal, he had found himself enjoying the little human’s company. Her beauty enchanted him. Her wavy golden locks and her inquisitive blue gaze made it impossible for him to stop stealing glances at her during their trip home. Her features were all softness and light. There were times he’d forgotten all about the pain his ex-fiancé had inflicted upon him as he held Caylee close.

He had to admit she’d surprised him as well. Caylee was much more submissive than he’d expected a human from Earth to be. He’d heard brides from her planet were often headstrong and needed to be broken in upon their arrival on Tarrkua. He stared down at her as the hover transport came to a rest in front of his house, wondering if he would ever have cause to discipline her.

“Welcome to your new home, sweet human.” He opened the door and stepped out of the transport, then grasped his little bride’s hand and helped her out of the vehicle. Not releasing her hand, he retrieved her suitcase from the storage compartment.

Her eyes widened as her gaze swept around the compound. “Wow, this place is beautiful. How many family members of yours live here?”

“Thirteen, not including us. My parents, my younger brother Kallem and his wife Erriss, along with their three children, and my other younger brother Gnoss and his wife Remani, along with their four children.” None of his family members in question were anywhere to be seen at the moment. Varro suspected they were all making themselves scarce in order to give him much needed privacy with his new bride.

“I look forward to meeting everyone.”

“You will meet them all soon,” Varro said, leading her into the house. A servant rushed forward and took Caylee’s suitcase from him, then carried it upstairs. Behind them, he heard a faint humming noise as the hover transport glided away, the driver no doubt on his way to stow the vehicle in the compound’s hangar.

Caylee’s eyes remained wide as she looked around. He couldn’t help but feel pleased that she was impressed by his house, which had been in his family for generations. It had sat empty during his years in space. To his utter shock, he found himself wondering how long it would be until this house was filled with children. Perhaps he had not cared for Bersenna as fiercely as he remembered. Or perhaps simply being in Caylee’s sweet presence was starting to mend the fissures that had opened in his heart. How would he feel tomorrow, or the next day, and so on? Would he eventually go an entire day without experiencing a sudden twinge of pain as memories rushed over him?

“Are you hungry?”

“No,Xerr. We ate on the ship shortly before disembarking.”

“Come, then. I will escort you to our bedroom.” Before moving toward the stairs, he turned to stare down at Caylee, taking note of the abrupt flushing of her cheeks. “We must consummate our marriage now, sweet human. I realize we do not know one another well yet, but it must be done.”

“Of course,Xerr. I understand. A couple on Earth is expected to consummate their marriage on their wedding day, as well. Well, it’s considered a tradition, I guess you could say.” She blushed an even deeper shade of pink, drawing his attention to the light scattering of freckles on her nose. Her lips were full and tempting. The sudden urge to kiss her swept over him.

Without conscious thought, he leaned down to press his mouth to hers. It was a slow, soft kiss. At first, she stilled and didn’t reciprocate in any way, but after he coaxed his tongue against hers and grasped her face in his hands, she seemed to melt in his embrace as she tentatively moved her tongue along his. Passion flared within him, hot and burning. He drank her in, reveling in the taste of this sweet little human he was about to claim.

When a tiny moan escaped her throat, it was as if something inside Varro snapped. He broke their kiss, but only because he needed to get her upstairs immediately. With a rumbling growl, he swept her up in his arms and headed for the stairs. She gasped but didn’t resist as he carried her up the steps.

Once he got her into his bedroom, he brought her to the large bed and laid her atop the covers. Then he stood above her and allowed his gaze to sweep over her petite form. Her hair was spread around her head upon the pillow and her chest rose and fell rapidly, drawing his attention to her ample bosom. Her cleavage showed above the line of her dress, just enough to tease him, and he noticed the outline of her hardening nipples through the fabric. She was slim but her hips flared out, and though he couldn’t see her bottom at the moment, he knew it was equally as curvy. Her dress had moved up her legs, revealing a glimpse of her smooth thighs.

Perfect, he thought.She’s perfect.

And all mine.

Julie could scarcely breathe.Varro’s gaze was dark and intense as he stared down at her. Every now and then, a deep growl issued from his throat. An animalistic noise that reminded her of their vast differences and of the fact that he was very much an alien. No human could ever make a sound like that.

Don’t spurn his advances. Do whatever he wants. Make him love you.

That little voice in the back of her mind wouldn’t shut up. She tried to push it away, but it was no use. Their first mating would be important. Monumental, even. It sealed the deal that was their marriage, after all. Would she truly be able to please him? She’d kissed a few guys and had a handful of semi-naked encounters before, but she’d never actually had sex.

Varro sat on the bed and stroked her hair. Whenever his fingertips grazed over her head, her scalp prickled with sensation. She found herself leaning into his touch. His gaze never left hers and she wondered what he was thinking. She hoped he found her pleasing.

“I enjoyed kissing you, little human.”

She flushed. “I-I enjoyed kissing you as well,Xerr.” It was the truth. His kiss had pushed all rational thought from her mind and left her quaking with desire. The few other kisses she’d experienced during her lifetime all paled in comparison. The way he’d clutched her face and slowly deepened the kiss had tantalized her senses. If he could be this sweet and gentle, perhaps when he eventually discovered her deception, he would not punish her too severely. At the very least, she hoped he didn’t send her back to Earth.

He reached for her shoulder and pushed the strap of her dress halfway down her arm. Her breath quickened when he did the same with the other strap and bared her to his gaze. She wasn’t wearing a bra, as she’d heard most Tarrkuan females didn’t wear one and she’d hoped to please Varro by not donning the undergarment. She wasn’t wearing panties for the same reason.
