“No, we can’t.”
“God dammit, Bash. Why are you doing this?”
He walks toward me and I feel butterflies in my stomach. He pushes a stray hair away from my face. “There are so many things that I want to know about you. I recognize that there is more going on in that head of yours then you feel comfortable discussing with me. I’m hoping with time, you’ll learn to trust me.”
“It’s not that I don’t trust you. It’s hard for me. You don’t understand.”
“I get that. You’re unlike any other woman I’ve ever known and I feel like you see me in a way no one has ever before. I can wait. It might sound dumb, but if you’re a flame, than I’m a moth. I’m drawn to you. I have been since we met. Every day, I learn a little something more about you. And even though you’re a book with endless pages that equally fascinate and frustrate me, I look forward to every chapter and every single word.”
“Bash…”
“Shhh. Listen to me for once. Youarethe kind of girl guys like me give their keys to. And yes, last night was amazing, but it wasn’t only that we had mind-blowing sex; it was because you let me in. I turned another page in your book, and tomorrow, I want to turn another. And I’m sorry you haven’t heard crazy romantic things before because you deserve to. I think I’m the right guy for the job and I think you should get used to it.”
“But… no.” I shake my head.
“No?” he asks with a smirk.
“Bash, you’re being—”
“You’re not listening.” He bends down and presses his lips against mine. I melt into him and throw my arms around his neck. He pulls me firmly against him and I lower my hands to his muscular arms.
He mumbles through our kiss. “Can you hear me now?”
“No?” I pose it as a question because I’m not sure how I feel or why he’s saying these things to me.
He kisses me again and slides his tongue into my mouth. “And now?”
I sigh.
He pulls away and I lean forward, wanting more. “Let me help write a page or two.”
I close my eyes. “What if you think you like the book because it seems like a great romance with a tad bit of mystery. But then the more you read, the more you realize it’s more sci-fi or horror and it gets scary and makes you want to run away?” I open my eyes again to gauge his reaction.
His eyes darken as he lifts my chin to stare into my eyes. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“But what if…”
“If this story gets scary, then I’ll have to hold you tighter.”
“Why me? You could have anyone.”
He steps closer to me. “Back at you.”
I roll my eyes.
He glances down at his watch and straightens his glasses. “We’re not leaving here until you say yes. But you’d better say it soon or you’re going to make the principal extremely late.”
“Fine. Yes. Okay, fine.”
He cringes. “Wow. That was amazing. It’s exactly what I always hoped for.”
I snicker as he crosses his arms.
“Give me the key.”
He places it in my open hand.
“Yes. I’ll be your girlfriend.” He smiles and I hold up my finger. “But only until your mother says she hates me, then I’m letting you off the hook.”
