Icouldn’t lie; I wanted to smoke Foe’s ass. I thought marrying his sister would calm his ass down, but it only made shit worse. The moment we fought was the moment I knew he and I would never get along. With the tension between us, I didn’t know if we could both coexist in the Zoo. Who knew one night of being petty for pussy I never got would turn into this?

I stood in the living room, mad as fuck. I knew Foe and I would bump heads, but I didn’t think it would be this soon. I also knew at some point it would get back to Chevy, and his ram head ass was going to have me and Foe heads on a fucking platter. Lakia stood there after he left, looking foolish. She came over to me to touch my hand, and I pulled away. “Sukalati, I need you to leave, for real.”

“Monfua, I—”

I shook my head. “I want you gone by the time I come from the back. A nigga tries to take care of you, and this is what I get. You’ve got to go.”

When I walked to the back, she was behind me. My head slowly turned to glance at her. Lakia wore the word sorry all over her face. I knew it wasn’t her fault that Foe acted the way he did, but she didn’t make the shit any better. To know she had something up her sleeve only added fuel to the fire. I could have easily called her out in front of her brother, but I wasn’t built that way. All a nigga was trying to do was show her what a husband looks like, but instead, she wanted to continue with the games.

I still had no words for her. She dropped her head as she stepped past me into the room and grabbed her purse. As she made her way out of the room, she stopped in front of me. She looked like she wanted to say something, but she just continued down the hall. When I heard the door closing, I didn’t know what to think. Maybe the better option was to not even give this shit a chance and let Lakia do Lakia.

“Oh shit! Y’all fought each other.” Streets said as he spun the basketball on his finger.

Streets came around when he had free time from school. He wasn’t around as much, but when he did come around, he got all the information at once. Peanut came over and sat on the couch. Why would you marry his sister, though? He signed.

We all knew Peanut wasn’t as confident in speaking all the time due to his speech impediment. The stutter was so bad that his father had him learn sign language and that’s what made him feel comfortable. So we all took time to learn ASL just for him.

“It was supposed to be a joke, but I like her.”

Mali sipped on his drink as he came out of my kitchen, “That’s the dumbest shit I’ve heard. Man, if you don’t get rid of her ass,” he said as he waved me off.

To let her go sounded like the best option, but I didn’t believe in divorce. I knew it sounded dumb, but I didn’t care. Moments later, Beans came through the door. He glanced at it then at us, “Hmph.”

Streets laughed as he shook his head. “Y’all niggas are wild. What did Chevy say?”

“He doesn’t know.”

Beans came over and nodded at Streets, gave Mali the side eye, and offered a head nod to Peanut. He was about to say something when Sash walked through the door. Sasha was glowing. With her and Zeus getting married, it was the best thing that had happened to her. If she could do it and be happy, why couldn’t I?

She looked dead in my face, scared. “What the fuck happened?”

Peanut stood as he signed to her.Monfua and Foe got into a fucking fight.

Her eyes widened. “For what?”

Beans turned to her. “Because those niggas don’t respect us, that’s why.”

She shook her head. “Don’t say that. They just—”

I shot up. “They just what? Huh Sash? Cause that nigga came bust through my door like he pays bills in this muhfucka. Look, we decided to join the Zoo because you said it was a good move. Did they want us to join, or did you force them to take us on?”

I was starting to get frustrated all over again. From the Zoo, to Foe, to Lakia, everything was becoming too much. Sasha didn’t even bother to step closer as she stood at the door with a sympathetic look on her face. “I’m sorry, but what you and Foehave going on has nothing to do with the Zoo. You can’t judge an entire crew based on your experience with the brother of a girl you randomly married. Do you even love each other?” she asked.

Streets leaned back in the chair as his head slowly turned my way for the answer. Mali jumped in, “Hell nah, they don’t.”

Sasha nodded. “What you two did out of the blue changed everything. Now fix this situation. Either leave her alone or find a way to make it work. But the Zoo is family, and I didn’t go through what I did to bring us together for you all to walk away.”

Beans pointed at her, “Exactly whatyouwent through, it’s for yourself. Man, I smell bullshit. Aye, holla at me if you need something,” he said as he looked Sasha up and down before he walked out the door.

After everyone left my house, I decided to go for a drive to clear my head. When I stepped out, I noticed it was raining. The clouds were extremely dark, just like the reflection of my life since people found out about Lakia and me. It was everybody throwing the marriage in my face that made shit worse. It was as if we were being judged for a decision that we made, and because it didn’t follow everyone else’s dating rules, we were being crucified.

My head was all over the place and something that should have been so simple seemed so fucking hard. It was the fact that she tried to act like it was all my fault. Since she wanted to play this game like the marriage was all my fault, I was going to return the energy by acting as if she didn’t exist. God was still working on me, but for now, I was going to be the petty king.

HARVEY

Although things were a little awkward between Myles and me, I still wanted to proceed with throwing his party. While he was out, probably searching for his sister, I had the girls meet me at Diamond’s longue. Everyone knew about the surprise party except Myles. Yana talked Diamond into letting us use his longue for auditions.

I knew what my nigga liked, and strippers were one of them. I wanted him to have dancers at his party; however, I needed to be the one to select them. With the girls joining me, I figured it was the best time to let them know what was going on with Myles’ sister and me, and to get some advice before my relationship crumbled over something I felt was silly.
