I could see June disappearing while Chevy emerged.

Fuck!

MONFUA

Foe apologizing was unexpected. I figured he would die behind his actions, but to see him man up the way he did made me feel like there was some truth to the brotherhood I’ve heard so much about with the Zoo. Lakia texting me was right on cue because after having that talk with her brother, I wanted to see her.

I didn’t know what it was going to look like for her and Foe, but for every night she felt alone, I would be there to comfort her. I hoped that they were able to fix their relationship before something happened to either one of them.

By the time I stepped back into the house, Chevy had his bike keys in his hand, waiting at the door. He turned to Dio, “Where did Samara go?”

“She went to the store; she should be back in a minute.”

Chevy swung the door open. “I don’t have a fucking minute.”

Everybody stared at him like he was crazy. Foe came up on the side of me but held his hand out to Diamond, “Gun. You know this nigga about to be on some shit,” he told him.

Diamond glanced at him curiously, “Why?”

I knew it was about to be some shit. “The girls went to the club,” I told him.

Diamond shot up from the chair. “What club? Yana ain’t say shit about a club.”

That’s when Samara walked in the door. Chevy wasted no time. “Watch your brothers, I will be back.”

Samara’s face looked confused as she barely had time to respond, “Huh?”

“Yeah, watch yo cou—”

Diamond tripped over Love’s baby chair, slamming his face on the floor. We all laughed. “Goddamn shaggy ass carpet in this muhfucka,” he gritted.

I didn’t see what the big fuss was about.Did they not trust their women? The sound of Chev’s bike revving made us all run out of the house. By the time we got outside, that nigga had taken off. “He doesn’t even know where she is,” I told Foe as I hopped on my bike.

He started his shit up and hit the kickstand. “Trust me that nigga will find her,” he said, taking off.

All the guys came along riding behind Chevy. I was merely going to see my baby, but what these niggas had in mind, I had no clue. When I pulled up to the location she had given me, I balled my face up staring at the place. “This shitty ass building.”

Foe chuckled. “Only my momma would bring them to some shit like this.”

We hopped off our bikes and headed toward the entrance, where Chevy was going back and forth with security. Zu walked up and shoved the old nigga out of the way. When we stepped inside, the smell of Geritol and cheap perfume filled the air. My eyes scanned the room for Sukalati. Our eyes landed on each other, and she blessed a nigga with that pretty ass smile.

I felt a tap on my shoulder from Mali, “Oh shit,” I heard him say.

It was Sasha, Yana, Lakia’s mother, and some other people on the dance floor. They had all danced freely. Chevy paced around the dance floor in search of Zaria. The nigga’s face was filled with anger. When the tall guy in the black shirt turned, I spotted Zaria dancing.

I could see Chevy about to react, so I rushed over to him. “She’s just having a good time.”

He didn’t bother to look at me because he was focused on the man dancing in front of Zaria. Her eyes landed on Chevy, andthey gazed at each other for a moment. His eyes twitched just a tinge as if he were saying something to her. When he pulled them away, he cut his eyes at me, “You worry about your wife and let me worry about mine.”

I turned my head for a mere second when I felt Sukalati’s hand intertwine with mine. Suddenly, the record that was playing scratched. My head shot that way, and Chevy was going to town on the tall nigga with that black shirt. His fists were moving so fast that I don’t think anybody wanted to step in. Dio jumped up and down next to him. “Beat his ass, Chev. Dancing with Z like that.Old ass nigga!”

Diamond tossed Yana over his shoulder while Sash stared at Zu and crept his way. Lakia’s mother was shouting from outside the dance floor, trying to tell Chev to stop, and Zaria calmly walked toward us, but Lakia stopped her. “Girl, get your husband.”

She smiled evilly. “No. I warned the guy, besides June, well, he fucks even better when he’s mad,” she winked. “Y’all have a good night,” she said as she left the building.

Lakia and I glanced at each other and laughed. It took five security guards to pull Chevy off the guy while we were all being kicked out. The shit seemed wild, but one thing about the Zoo was that they played no games, and I was happy to be a part of the family.
