“Well, you better figure it out because this nigga is not about to be at my door every fucking day. First, it’s him and Monfua, now it’s him and you. One thing y’all gone do is make a nigga be a leader.”
Chevy swung the door open. “Damn, you going to let me in?” I heard Myles snap.
“Foe nigga not tonight. She needs some time.”
“Let her tell me that.”
“Nigga what did I say?”
“Nah, Chev, what did I say?”
“Foe, you better chill, this is not the time nor place.”
“Did we say that when your ass was in the middle of the street, shooting shit up when Z left yo ass? Chev, I’m not even trying to go there with you, but I’m not leaving until I talk to her.”
I knew he wasn’t going to leave, so I came up behind Chevy. “I will go.”
Chevy turned to me and stared at me curiously, “You sure?”
I nodded. I walked closer as Myles stared at me sadly. Now I needed to decide if this would make or break us.
LAKIA
I got out of the shower after Monfua left me in here. I knew the way things started with us when I walked through that door, we would be rolling around in his California king bed. Instead, he teased me and walked out. I grabbed the towel and wrapped it around my body as I came out of the bathroom.
At first, things were silent, then I heard someone talking. I crept to the bedroom door and poked my head out to see Monfua and a friend he was with at the club. I couldn’t capture the conversation from where I stood. However, I could tell whatever it was, it seemed serious. When the door closed, I ducked back into the room, rushed, and sat at the foot of the bed. Moments later, he came into the room.
We glanced at each other before we both pulled our eyes away. That’s when he came over, standing in front of me. “I want to know why you came back?”
He took a few steps back, crossing his arms over his chest. My hand nervously ran behind my neck. I cleared my throat. “I came back because I wanted to see you.”
“Lie. Why did you come back?”
The wrinkles in my head formed. “It’s not a lie. It’s the truth.”
He shrugged. “Maybe, but it isn’t the only reason. Who are you other than Foe’s sister? I smell bullshit.”
My head flew back. “Fine time to worry about who I am and we’re married or did you forget?”
He laughed as his hands went up in the air. “You’re a deflector. Now we’re married. You know what. Good night. You can sleep in here. I will take the spare room.”
I hopped up from the bed, “Wait!”
I felt under pressure. Why was he putting me on the spot like he was fucking perfect? Why was my night going like this?I blew out a sharp breath, but he didn’t care because he continued out the door, leaving me standing there. If I learned nothing else about Monfua, he likes to be the one who walks away.
Once he was out of the room, I fell back on the bed in frustration.Fuck Lakia!I thought. I knew I needed to own up to so much shit, but I was afraid of the outcome. Not only had I taken part in Foe and Harvey’s breakup, but I couldn’t even get whatever I had with Monfua right. “What is wrong with you, girl?” I mumbled to myself as I sat up.
The sound of my phone vibrating caught my attention. Thinking it was my brother, I quickly got up, hurrying to my phone. When I saw who it was, I answered, “Kirk?”
The fact that he was calling me was a surprise, given that he had said he would call back days ago. He was good at saying he was going to do something and never did. So, to see him follow through on something was a surprise.
“Lakia, are you busy?”
I glanced at the bedroom door. I should have ended the call, but after he knew about the marriage, I wanted to hear what he had to say. “I’m kind of busy. What’s up?”
I could almost feel that shitty grin he held on his face when he was doing something sneaky. “I saw you were in Toussaint and I—”
My eyes widened. “How do you know where I am?”
