“Excuse me, Mrs. Albright. May I talk to Dwight for a minute?”

Dwight spun around when he heard Mia’s voice.Saved!

“Of course, honey. And when you’re done, come find me so we can chat.”

He stood behind his mother making a slashing motion across his throat and mouthed, “Don’t do it.”

Mia struggled not to smile. “Alright.”

His mother smiled at them both and hurried off.

“Thank goodness. You got here just in time.”

She laughed. “What happened?”

“Let’s just say your fairy-tale wedding was about to become my mother’s ultimate project.”

Still chuckling, she said, “Actually, I have a proposition that might make it easy on both of us.”

Dwight folded his arms and leaned against the deck railing. “I’m all ears. Especially if it’ll result in reining Mom in.”

“I think it will. So here’s what I’m thinking. This place is amazing.” She waved a hand around. “And it’s already decorated like the winter wonderland I’ve always fantasized about seeing when I walked down the aisle.”

His heart started pounding. He dropped his arms slowly and straightened. “And?”

“I have it on good authority that your family is ready for anything…anything, including impromptu weddings. And since I really don’t want to be without you for one minute, and Iloveyour home, especially the kitchen, I was thinking we should do it today.” Mia shrugged. “I mean it is Christmas and you are my fairy-tale. I have everything I need here.”

Is she saying what I think she’s saying?“Please tell me this isn’t a joke, baby.” It was almost too much to hope that she meant it.

She placed a hand on his heart. “I would never joke about loving you or wanting to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“What about your job?”

A soft smile touched her lips. “I also have it on good authority that a certain construction company is in need of a business manager. I’m sure that I’ll have no problems meeting the qualifications. I mean we’ll have to negotiate the work hours because, although you might have to be at a site at the crack of dawn, that’s still not happening for me. So, whatcha think?”

“I think you just made me the happiest man alive and I am absolutely ready to do this.” Dwight swept her off her feet and lowered his head.

“Wait!”

His brows knitted together. “What?”

She held up the little clear package. “I think this calls for another mistletoe moment, don’t you? That’ll make five. Five mistletoe moments.”

He grinned. “You’d better believe it.” He crushed his mouth against hers, kissing her with all the love flowing in his heart and would have kept right on kissing her if it wasn’t for the continuous throat-clearing. Dwight glared at his brother.

Dwayne rocked on his heels. “Anything you want to tell me, little brother? You two are a little too excited over here.”

“Yeah, I have something to tell you. We’re getting married today. Where’s Uncle Gene?”

“Hot damn! That’s what I’m talking about. Start the year with a wedding and end it with another one. This is howweroll.”

Dwight set Mia on her feet and did a fist bump with his twin. “This is how we roll.”

Dwayne’s sharp whistle crackled across the air. When everyone quieted, he said, “We’re about to have another wedding, family! Uncle Gene, where are you?”

A loud whoop went up, then his mother said, “There’s goes all my planning.” That brought on a round of laughter.

Dwight hugged his mom and kissed her cheek. “I still need you to do something for me. Mia wants to be married in a winter wonderland and nobody creates that better than you. The house is amazing. Can you have my bride come down the staircase to me?”
