“And bring chips,” Jayme added.
I scoffed but jerked the pantry open to grab Jayme the sea salt chips she loved and headed back to the living room.
Jayme and Dyani were on separate sides of the couch and their eyes went straight to me as I walked over.
“I didn’t realize y’all were waiting for me.” I tossed the chips to Jayme. “Y’all need anything else?”
“Water?” Dyani asked.
“Sure. You want something to drink, Jay?”
“Nope. I’ll just drink some of y’alls’.”
“Alright.” I pivoted back to the kitchen to get water for Dyani and a bag of pre-popped popcorn I was sure Jayme would want halfway through the movie.
When I got back, Dyani tapped the couch between them.
“Come on.”
I collapsed into my designated space, handed each of the women their things, and leaned back.
“Thank you.” Dyani opened her water and leaned in to kiss my cheek.
“Thank you,” Jayme echoed and kissed the other side.
“You’re welcome.” I leaned one way then the other to kiss each of them.
Dyani started the movie and I got comfortable, settling a hand on each of their legs.
We were only twenty minutes in when Jayme lay down across the couch and set her legs in my lap. Dyani leaned her head against my shoulder and I threw my arm around her. We watched the rest of the movie like that, and honestly, I was happier and more at peace than I’d been in a while.
Shit felt perfect.
Chapter 14
Dyani
I rippeda piece of the waffle in front of me and popped it into my mouth. Then I nodded.
“How did you get these this soft?” I groaned. “They’re amazing, Jayme.”
“Thank you. Thank you.”
She did a little dance in front of the stove and went back to work, pouring her special waffle mix into the oversized waffle maker Arris owned.
The man in question stood beside her at the stove frying bacon and scrambling eggs, a blank expression on his face.
It was obvious Arris was not a morning person, so Jayme and I were letting him have a minute while he went through the morning with us like it was second nature.
I turned around and looked down at my phone when it started ringing from where I’d tossed it on the counter.
I saw it was Darryl, silenced it, and flipped my phone over so I could be present with Arris and Jayme.
The phone stopped ringing for a moment then started again. I flipped it over to see if it was Darryl again. It was. I was immediately worried and confused. I plucked my phone up and answered.
“Hello?”
“Man, you screening my calls or what?” He jumped straight to the chase.
