Then I blew the candles out. I jumped up and down while everyone cheered.

I felt the second Arris’s large hand met the back of my head but I didn’t get a chance to respond. He pushed my head forward lightly, into the cake. I laughed as I lifted it back and elbowed him.

“Happy birthday, Jaybird!” he said.

I didn’t respond. I turned to my right, grabbed Dyani by the back of her head, and yanked her in. My lips met hers and cake smashed between us on our faces. It deepened for only a second, and when we broke apart, I licked some of the icing from her face. Then I turned, yanked Arris in by his shirt, and kissed him.

His shock was evident in a way Dyani’s hadn’t been but he didn’t pull away. He hesitated for a second but his hands went to my waist and he yanked me in. My tongue slipped along his and I damn near groaned against his mouth.

My attraction to Arris had never been in question. Even when I started taking women seriously, I’d always known I was attracted to him. even if I wasn’t attracted to any other men.

When we pulled away, he blinked down at me and I grinned briefly before turning back to Dyani.

“Well, fuck,” she laughed, “Happy birthday, Jayme.”

“Thank you.” I danced in place then leaned in.

She didn’t need to be subtly seduced. She met me halfway and kissed me. I pulled Arris up beside us, my drunk brain not fully comprehended that we had a very real audience around us.

I kissed him and her again.

“This is the best birthday ever!” I said loudly.

Arris and several members of DP chortled. I grabbed Dyani’s hand, squeezed, and beamed at her without a care in the world.

Yup. Best birthday in the world.

Chapter 8

Arris

Drunk Dyaniand Jayme were a handful. Even drunk, Dyani stood strong on not letting it be known that we were somewhat feeling each other, and I respected that, but she and Jayme couldn’t keep their hands off each other. That didn’t bother me. I’d shared women with Jayme before and was confident if Dyani didn’t like me she wouldn’t have spent the time she had with me.

We’d gotten lunch after our dinner date that turned into us unpacking her spot. It hadn’t been anything crazy. I let her pick the place, and of course it was about forty-five minutes out, an attempt at hiding the fact that we were hanging out.

I hadn’t called her on it again.

We had several phone conversations between that time and now. Hell, I’d offered to pick her up for this party. Of course, she declined, but I felt like there was at least a little something between us that could be nurtured into more.

I wasn’t questioning that because she and Jayme were dancing all over each other and kissing every other song. Jayme opened the floodgates with the kiss she’d given during her cake cutting and they hadn’t pulled back yet.

None of the DP members had commented, at least to me, and I didn’t think they were going to. They knew Jayme. They knew she liked women and she’d had a girlfriend.

I’d just met Dyani in person recently. I was sure most DP members couldn't put a name to her face. Hell, Darryl probably hadn’t even mentioned her to most of them. She was one of the things he kept close to his chest.

I wasn’t worried about word getting back to Darryl about it. I wasn’t worried about Darryl at all, but as far as Dyani was concerned, when it came to keeping the peace with her brother, she would be cool. Even if it came out that she and Jayme were all over each other, he’d think it was hilarious. He would probably give me shit about it like he’d done plenty of times when Jayme made appearances with the women she was seeing.

I kept my eyes on both of them while they navigated the club, looking like they were having an amazing time. It put a smile on my face. I loved seeing Jayme happy. She deserved it. Shit. She deserved all the good in the world. She was a constant in my world and she’d be in it until my dying breath. That was why I never had a desire to cover up the tattoo I’d gotten in her honor. Seeing her be that happy with someone else I was hoping to become a constant had me smiling from ear to ear. I liked that they were cool with each other and apparently it had the potential to be a little bit more than that.

I was obviously attracted to both of them, so the more they kissed and stole little touches from each other, the harder my dick got. I did my best to reel it in. They were drunk. Jayme was my ex. Dyani and I hadn’t even slept together with just the two of us. Just because they liked kissing didn’t mean they necessarily wanted to fuck each other. Jayme was a professional flirt and Dyani?—

My thoughts froze and my eyes flew to the last place I’d seen the women when a shot rang out. I was on my feet rushingtoward them before I even realized what was happening. I pulled my gun out, wrapped my arms around both of them, and immediately started ushering them toward the stairs.

I threw Janine and Janari in with the group as I passed them. The club had turned into chaos and it was obvious a fight had broken out and was actually getting worse after the shot. I saw a few DP members fighting with some Bedford Boys, our rival gang. Their green flags were mixed in amongst my guys and their black and white ones.

I didn’t let that deter me from getting the fuck out. I had Dyani and Jayme with me and was confident DP could stand on its own with or without me. I wasn’t taking any risks with either of their lives.

People were running around us, screaming and shoving. The lights of the club came on. The music went off.
