"Together," she whispers against my lips.
I push forward, slow and deep, and we both groan. The mate bond flares bright between us, golden and unbreakable. Every nerve ending lights up, every sensation amplified until I can't tell where I end and she begins.
We move together with urgent tenderness, each thrust a reaffirmation of what we are. Partners. Mates. Two souls bound by choice as much as fate. Her legs wrap around my waist, pulling me deeper, and I bury my face in her neck, breathing in her scent mixed with mine.
"Don't hold back," she demands, her voice rough with need. "I want all of you. Everything."
I let go of the last threads of control. Let the wolf rise to the surface, let my eyes shift to gold, let the storm answer the magic singing between us. Thunder rolls somewhere in the distance. Lightning flashes once, illuminating her face—beautiful and fierce andmine.
"Declan," she gasps, her nails digging into my shoulders. "I'm close...”
"Let go." I change the angle slightly, hit the spot that makes her cry out. "Let go, sweetheart."
She does, and the sensation crashes through the bond with enough force to trigger mine. I bury myself as deep as I can go and shatter, her name torn from my throat as pleasure whites out everything else.
We stay locked together as aftershocks roll through us both, the bond singing with satisfaction and love and the bone-deep certainty of rightness. Two people choosing each other despite impossible odds.
When I can finally move, I roll us to the side, keeping her close. Our legs tangle together, our heartbeats gradually slowing to normal. She traces patterns on my chest, and I comb my fingers through her hair, neither of us willing to break the peaceful silence.
Finally, she speaks. "One attempt."
I know what she's asking. What she needs from me.
"One attempt," I agree, the words costing me everything. "One convergence point. With full brotherhood protection—Jax, Tessa, Rafe, Grayson, Kian, Finn. Everyone. If it works, if the storm blood is strong enough to reinforce the seal, we continue. If it doesn't—if there's even a moment where I think you're in danger—we abort and find another way. Agreed?"
She lifts her head to look at me, hope shining in her eyes. "Agreed."
"And you follow every order I give during the attempt." My alpha voice bleeds through. "No arguments, no hesitation. If I say run, you run. If I say stop, you stop. Your safety is non-negotiable."
"Deal." She kisses me softly. "Thank you. For trusting me."
"I trust you." I cup her face, making sure she sees the truth in my eyes. "It's the universe I don't trust. But you're right—we can't hide while people die. We have to try."
I reach over to the nightstand, my hand fumbling for the small wooden box I tucked into the drawer. The box contains my mother’s ring—a simple silver band with a single sapphire the color of storm clouds. She wore it every day of her life, and my father had it made from metal he'd forged himself, infused with pack magic and love that lasted beyond death.
Eliza watches as I pull it out, her breath catching.
"This was my mother's," I say, holding it up between us. The sapphire catches the dim light, seeming to glow from within. "Not an engagement ring—we'll do that properly when this isover, with a ceremony and your family present and everything you deserve. But I want you to have this now. A promise."
I slide it onto her right hand, and it fits perfectly, as if it was made for her.
"When this is over—when Connor is stopped and the seals are secure—I'm making you my wife in every way that matters. Human ceremony, pack ritual, whatever you want. You'll be mine in every world, every life. This ring is my promise of that. Of forever."
She stares at the ring, tears streaming down her cheeks. When she looks up at me, the love in her eyes nearly stops my heart.
"I already am," she whispers. "Yours. In every way. Forever."
I kiss her again, slow and deep, binding the promise between us. Outside, the storm fades to gentle rain. Inside, wrapped in each other's arms, we find peace despite the war waiting for us in the morning.
She falls asleep first, exhausted by emotion and lovemaking and the weight of what's coming. I hold her, listening to her breathing even out, feeling her heartbeat steady against mine. My mate. My love. My partner in everything.
I'm still awake hours later when my phone buzzes on the nightstand. I grab it carefully, not wanting to wake Eliza.
The text is from Brennan:
Connor's on the move. Just hit a convergence point in the north. One druid-blood carrier dead. He's accelerating the timeline.
Ice floods my veins. I look down at Eliza sleeping peacefully in my arms, the ring on her finger catching the moonlight.
