“The time you told me Berserk told you he didn’t want to go on a date with me to the skating rink and he didn’t have any feelings for me.”

“That was partially true. He didn’t have feelings for you, and it happened when I was sixteen years old. Why would I lie about Chuck working as a cop? I killed him. I have nothing to gain from it.”

She places her hand on the trigger, and my heart beats wild and free.

“Why don’t you go to the cops for what he did?” I ask, placing my hands in the air.

“You know how powerful the Vitali family is. They will look the other way.”

“Hey, wait a second, okay? Look, I know you’re pissed off, but we can work something out.”

She cocks the gun. “Get out of the car.”

I do what she says and step over the driver’s body. We move upstairs, and she opens the door. The cabin appears to be a normal one with basic furniture. My mind swims with thoughts of murder. I’m so sick of everyone using me to for their own personal gain—Chuck, Mother, and Villainous. I can see why she wants revenge on Villainous. Everything has been taken from her, just like me—the Vitalis have been taking everything from me. I can use this opportunity to get revenge on Villainous. I can make his death look like an accident. He showed me how when we were teenagers.

“You know, I was thinking about getting my revenge on Villainous.” My tone is light as I turn to face her.

She rolls her eyes as if she’s bored. “How so?”

“Because his family killed my family. They killed two of my brothers. Especially Liam. He was my best friend.”

“You sai—”

I wave my hand, cutting her off. “I lied about knowing who killed Liam. And I want to get revenge on both of them. Especially Villainous. He raped me and locked me in the dungeon to rot, and he made me kill someone. Now, he lives in this fantasy world that I’ll forgive him for the shit he did to me. I’ve been plotting to kill him in his sleep and slip away from him with our son. I don’t want the monster anywhere near AJ.” I tap my fingers against my chin. “How about I do this? I call him, and we can kill him together and we can leave here. I’ll have access to his bank account, and I’ll clean it out and we can run away together.”

She eyes me up and down. “Why would I believe you?”

“Because…you have been my only real friend. You have always been there for me, and I want to return the favor. I promise. I’m tired of him. Ever since you told me you were into girls, I haven’t stopped thinking about you. I’ve been hiding how I feel about you for so long, and I want you. We can get the family that we always wanted. Me, you, and AJ. And we can get married in California and adopt children.”

Her eyes bounce back and forth, so I step forward, then take another one and another one. I place both hands on her cheeks, and I press my lips against her soft lips and glide my tongue into her mouth. She grabs the back of my head, and we deepen the kiss. She uses too much tongue, and she reaches for my zipper, but I push her hands away.

“Not right now. We have to focus on our plan. But we will get to that part afterwards, I promise.”

She strokes my right cheek. “I always thought about how you tasted down there, and I can’t wait to devour you.”

“Me too.” I kiss her forehead. “You smell so good.”

Slowly, she lowers her gun, and I sit on the dingy couch. “Can you go get me a butcher knife? I want to have a whack at him a few times.”

She nods. “Okay.”

When she comes back, she hands me a sharp knife, and I set it next to me. She sits on my lap and wraps her arms around my shoulders.

I grab my phone from my dress pocket, and I hit number one and press the phone to my ear.

“I should call him and tell him to meet us here.”

“You should.” She stares at me dreamily.

He answers on the second ring. “Where are you? I’m worried about you, little dove.”

“Hey, I got caught up doing something. Can you meet me here? I rented out a cabin for tonight so we can have some time to ourselves,” I say airily. “I want to talk to you about us.”

“I thought you stood me up.” His voice is filled with panic.

“Oh no. I wasn’t in the mood for any shellfish. I’ll send you my location.”

“Yeah, you came to your senses and we’re going to be together,” he says smoothly.
