Aiden: I made reservations at Hudson Smokehouse for us.
Me: Sorry, I can’t make it.
Aiden: I’ll pick you up tonight at eight. And wear something sexy.
Me: You can’t ever take no for an answer.
Aiden: If I take no for an answer, then there will be no future for us and I can’t let that happen. You and me. Tonight. Wyatt says he’ll watch AJ tonight for us.
I guess I can go on one date with him.
Me: Fine. The only reason I’m going is because I need to talk to you about your “latest project.”
“Latest project” is code for my mother and his torturing her.
Aiden: You like my work, huh? Does it make you want to fuck the shit out of me like I want to do to you?
Me: You’re sick in the head.
Aiden: I know…
Villainous
“Let me make it clear for you,” I tell Seamus as he sits across from my brother and me. I invited him to an abandoned warehouse on territory that neither he nor my brother owns. “You call off your search for Maya. She’s my fiancée, and we’re getting married soon, and if you continue this goose chase with her again, I’ll cut out your eyes and feed them to you.”
He peers between my brother and me. “Is it true you have a son?”
“Why is it any of your business?” I snap.
“Because he’s half Irish, he can try to take over the family business, and I can’t have him as a threat to my future heirs.” He smooths out his tie, and his soldier that’s standing next to him glares at us with his finger on his trigger. Seamus tells him to stand by the door next to one of our soldiers.
“Villainous made me aware he will know his Irish heritage, but he will be raised on It—”
I pull out my Glock from my holster. “Fuck this shit.” I pull the trigger, and a bullet flies to his right leg. “It’s a flesh wound. It’ll heal.”
Seamus wails in pain, clutching his wound, and blood seeps through his fingers as he falls to the concrete ground.
His two soldiers aim their guns at us, and I aim my gun at Seamus’s forehead. I’m not fucking around with him when it comes to Maya.
“Call off your soldiers, or I’ll put a bullet in your forehead.”
“Don’t shoot,” he says, out of breath. “Lower your weapons.”
They do what he says and stand against the wall, and my soldiers do the same thing.
“This is what is going to happen,” Devious says, leaning forward in his chair. “You’re going to back off Maya, and if you don’t, I will kill every one of your famiglia and I do a hostile takeover over the little businesses that are surviving. Do I make myself clear?”
Seamus nods slightly and continues to clutch his wound.
“I need words, Seamus. I need to hear you say it.”
“Yeah, I’ll back off.” Seamus’s words are firm.
I’m itching to pull the trigger on Seamus and end his life. “Today is your lucky day. The only reason why I’m allowing you to live is because I’m in a jolly mood,” I say to him as we leave the building. Once we’re in the car, I strap my seat belt on me, and Devious sits next to me.
“You think Seamus will back off?” I ask him.
“Yeah, if he knows what’s good for him. His businesses are failing, and some of his members are going back to the Five Points famiglia.”
