I thought of so many ways of killing Devious for what he did to Liam. The thought thrills me and sends a rush of adrenaline through my veins.
I sigh. “Lock him up in the cabin and set him on fire.”
“If I wanted to get revenge on the person who killed my brother, I would lure them to a cabin, carve off their skin, chop off their limbs, and feed it to the wolves in the forest,” she says flatly.
The way her face is wiped clean of emotion frightens me. I chuckle nervously. “You put a lot of thought into this.”
She stands oddly close to me. “I have, and I will get revenge on the person.” She swallows thickly, and there is a long pause. “My brother raised me because my mother was a junkie and always chose her fix over us. And he passed away sometime last year.” She shakes her head. “You want to get out of here and go watch a movie? It’s getting too cold out here for me to breathe.”
I shrug. “Sure. As long as you make me salmon and mash potatoes for dinner.”
“Deal.”
Villainous
“I have to update you on some shit,” Demonte says as he slides the folder to my side of the table as we sit in my office at one of my brothels in the middle of the night.
I open the folder and see pictures of Clover, and I frown. The fact that he had his filthy hands on Maya puts me in a sour-ass mood.
Demonte leans against my oak desk. “He’s a crooked cop. He is known to go after mobsters because he wants to be part of a big operation in recognition of his father, who is the chief. He’s known to go undercover posing as people so he can get what he wants. He also works with Seamus—Seamus, the one who tipped Clover off that Maya had connections with Celeste.”
I cock my right eyebrow. “What kind of work does he does with Seamus?”
“Drugs. Clover works in the narcotics team.”
“I’m not understanding. Why would he be after Maya if he works in the narcotics team?”
Demonte rubs his hands together. “They struck a deal. Seamus helps him bust people who sell drugs. In exchange, he keeps tabs on Maya and gets her to admit she killed Celeste.” He exhales. “Also, because I half-ass like your ass, I ran a background check on Maya. I couldn’t find anything on her about her killing him. I even went and checked out the crime myself, and there was no evidence of her killing Celeste.”
I sigh. So she was actually honest with me. I’m happy about the news.
“The only record Maya has is she got caught shoplifting at a Target for stealing baby clothes and food nine years ago.”
I lean back into my executive chair, rubbing my forehead. “Strange.”
“She has a brother her mother adopted, so maybe it was for that.”
Could be. Maya always had the heart of a saint. If you needed anything, she would go above and beyond, enough to put herself in danger. That was one of the many things I admired about her.
I draw my eyebrows together. “What about Seamus?”
“I can’t find him, but I’m going to keep looking for him,” he says with hope.
“Thanks. When you do, bring him to me.”
He nods. “Well, I’ve got to head out. I got another job to do.”
He gets up from the chair and wipes his palms on his jeans and leaves the room.
I’ve been avoiding Maya since I made her suck my dick, and as much as I want to be next to her, I don’t want her getting into my head and telling me empty lies that we are going to be together. She lives in a fantasy world if she thinks we’re going to be together and that I’m going to overlook what she’s done to me, so I’m not going home until the morning. Normally, I would spend the night at Devious’s house, but ever since he got married, I try not to be a bother, and I want to show some respect to their manor. And with him losing little Enzo, I’m sure he doesn’t want company. So, I tell my driver, Henson, to take me to Piero’s penthouse on Fifth Avenue.
When I get there, my soldiers and I pass the lobby, and we head to the elevators. Once we make it to the top floor, I grab my phone and text him that I’m standing outside his door. Several minutes later, he doesn’t answer, so I type in the code and the door swings open. My soldiers walk in first, and I follow suit. His penthouse has the best view of the city. His furniture is industrial and sleek and warm and cozy. I pad to his bedroom, and I hear a faint noise, so I open the door. A slender woman with blonde hair is on top of Piero, riding the fuck out of his dick. When she turns her head, I recognize Ginevra. Her eyes meet mine, and her face turns as bright red as a stop sign.
“Mr. Vitali?” she says with horror in her eyes, getting off Piero and swaddling a silk sheet around her body. “My apologies. I—”
“It’s okay, Ginevra.” I let out a breath.
Piero gets up from the bed and slides on his gray boxers. “Wait here. Kicking him out,” he mumbles to Ginevra, and she smiles sweetly and lies back down on the fluffy bed.
