“Those love stories don’t exist, Roselyn.”

I don’t want Devious to shit on my hopes and dreams about love. I need to go lie down—my feet hurt bad. “Can we go back to the penthouse?”

“Yeah.”

The ride to the penthouse is quiet, and tension thickens the air. When we arrive, he grabs my hand, leading me to our bedroom. Our suitcases are by a chair, and I unzip mine, removing my pajamas. Devious removes his clothes and lies on the bed with nothing on but his boxers.

I throw on my pajamas and slide in next to him. We’re quiet, and I can tell Devious won’t be getting any sleep, and neither will I. My mind is still reeling from what he told me and how he opened up to me, and I hadn’t expected him to. Most of the time, he’s so damn closed off. He’s so angry at the world, and I would be too if I were in his shoes.

“Are you okay? You’re shaking,” he mumbles in my ear.

“I’m cold.”

He lies on his back, patting his chest. I lay my head on his firm chest as he pulls the thick comforter over my body.

“Better?”

“Yes, your body is like a furnace.” I lay my whole body on his. “Devious, I will never cheat on you with anyone.”

“I know,” he exhales.

“How do you know?”

“The day I took you from Lex, I asked him if you were capable of being loyal, and he told me you were. That was one of the most important questions I asked him.”

I’ve always been loyal to the people I care about. It can be one of the biggest downfalls because I tend to be loyal to the wrong people.

The rest of the night we hold each other tight.

Devious

Istand in front of the bedroom where Maya is staying. I tuck my hands in my pocket as Aiden turns the knob on the door, pushing it open. She lost the color in her rosy cheeks, and her glossy red hair is now dyed a jet-black and is cut short. I haven’t seen her since she was twenty years old. Aiden grabs her by the arm, and she screams for him to let her go with tears in her eyes. He forces her to sit on the queen-size bed.

Her green doe eyes stare at me as she wraps her arms around her knees. My brother is staring at her with hurt and anger in his eyes. What happened between the two of them for him to want to go and get revenge on her?

Tears trickle down her cheeks. “I used to look up to you as my big brother, Cayden, and you do this?”

She was like a little sister to me. She used to be a part of our little group in high school, and she and Aiden parted ways after I graduated. I hate to bring her into this, but I need to find Cashel, and she can tell me where he’s at.

She spits in my face. “Cashel is going to kill you for what you’re doing to me, and he’s going to get me out of here.”

Just as I’m about to backhand her, Aiden stands in my way.

“Devious, don’t hurt her. She’s been through enough already.”

The fuck? Why is he defending her?

“By the time Cashel discovers you’re missing, you’ll be dead in a ditch,” I say through clenched teeth, then wipe the spit from my face.

Tears continue to run down her cheeks.

“You spit in my face again, I’ll gut you like a little fish. My brother won’t be able to stop me either,” I snap. “Where is Cashel?”

“I’ll never tell you.”

“Keep her locked in this room and you’ll decide her punishment.”

He nods and does what I say. She screams, calling me every name in the book.
