Her bright blue eyes are focused on Ivy, and she nods easily at whatever her friend is telling her. When her lips quirk up in a small smile, anticipation claws at my chest.
Go on, Katie. Smile.
I want to see her smile.
Fucking hell.
Scott ruffles my hair as he passes me, making his way toward Ivy and wrapping an arm around her waist.
“Stop doing that,” I say as I follow him over to where the girls are standing and fix my hair. “It makes me feel like your younger brother, and I’m older than you.”
“You are?” Katie asks. When I look down at her, she looks surprised and a little confused, like she hadn’t meant to say the words aloud.
“Sure am, Rockstar.” I slip my arm around Katie’s shoulders. She tenses but doesn’t throw me off. A win in my book. “He’s the baby out of the two of us.”
“Fuck off,” Scott murmurs.
I laugh, tucking Katie further into my side. On instinct, I turn my face toward hers and lean down, burying my nose into her hair. Fuck, she smells good.
A little like cinnamon and whiskey.
A deadly combination.
“I’m exhausted,” Ivy says, burying her head in Scott’s chest to stifle a yawn.
“Let’s get out of here,” he says, nodding at me to start heading for the exit.
“I—uh …” Katie hesitates. “I caught a ride with Ives.”
“You want me to take you home?” I wriggle my brows at her, loving the way a red tinge seeps into her cheeks.
“I would like to get a lift with you,” she answers, pushing gently on my chest. It’s not hard enough to make me want to let go, so I keep my arm resting around her shoulders. “You know, to the place we both live. As roommates.”
“I hate that word.” I scrunch up my face. “I would, Murphy, but you know, I only give myfriendsa lift home.”
Katie rolls her eyes. “Don’t be an ass.”
“Just call me your friend.” I lean closer, whispering against her ear, “Call me your friend and I’ll take you home.”
My hand slips off her shoulder and down her back. My fingers glide through the silky strands of her hair, untangling the loose knots that appeared throughout the game. I turn toward her, our bodies so close there are mere inches between my chest and hers. I twist a blonde lock around my finger and gently tug. Katie barely reacts, but her bright blue eyes flare with warning as she allows me to change the angle of her head.
If looks could kill, I’d let this woman slaughter me over and over again, just knowing her eyes were on me, and me alone.
“Let that hand drop any lower, Reed, and I’ll kill you in your sleep,” she warns, her words a quiet threat.
“That’s very unfriendly.” I pout.
“My bite is bigger than my bark.” Her eyes flash again, and I feel my cock stiffen. God, she’s hot. I think I want her to bite me. “Don’t push me.”
I lower my lips to her ear, not removing my hand from her lower back but also not letting it drop any lower. “Call me your friend and I’ll stop.”
Katie makes a low noise and I laugh, my breath skittering across the back of her neck and raising goosebumps on her soft skin.
“Fine.” I place a gentle kiss just below her ear. She shivers against me. Another win.
“Let’s go,” Scott says, cutting through our moment. I shoot him a glare but step back from Katie. Her chest heaves a little, the only sign that she’s affected by me at all.
Scott leads the way out of the waiting area and through the arena toward our cars. I picked Scott up this afternoon and drove us bothover, knowing he’d be heading home with Ivy, and Katie would come with me.
