He lifts himself so our eyes lock. “I’ll claim you as many times as you want, baby.”

Chapter Ten

Flynn

“Your cabin is so…homey,” Devin says as she runs her hand across a throw blanket folded over the back of my couch. She’s wearing one of my T-shirts and nothing else. Because I just fucked her on the kitchen island, I’m resisting the urge to bend her over the couch until later. Probably.

“You’re surprised?”

“I thought for sure you lived like a bachelor. But look at you. You have pictures on the walls and everything.”

“I can cook, too.”

“Don’t say things you don’t mean,” she says, spinning to face me. She leans back against the couch, both hands stretched behind her.

“What’s your favorite meal?”

“Lasagna.”

“That’s the first meal I’ll make you,” I say, strutting up to her. Okay, maybe I’mnotgoing to wait to bend her over the couch. I tug her shirt up, exposing her bare pussy. I drag my fingersthrough her wet folds. I’ve filled this pussy with cum so many times in the last twenty-four hours that I’ve lost count.

“Shit, is that the time?” Devin asks, grabbing my wrist so she can better see my watch.

My entire body sinks with dread. “Yeah.”

“Hey,” she says, cupping my cheeks. “You’ve made some pretty convincing arguments these past couple of days. I just?—”

“You need to talk to your friend,” I say, understanding. We stopped at the lodge yesterday, but Erin had apparently gone out for the day. Winnie was pretty tight lipped about who she went outwith, even though I tried bribing her with an offer to bring Tabby around more. I have my suspicions, but she refused to confirm them.

Either way, Devin didn’t have the conversation she needed to have, and that little detail has been haunting me ever since. Like a nagging whisper that’s gotten louder with time.

“I need to make sure she’s okay,” she says.

I take a deep breath and force out the words I’ve been holding back. “You should go, Devin.”

“Um, what?”

“You should go back to Omaha.”

“Did you hit your head when I fell down the hill into the stream?” she asks, patting my temple.

“I want you to stay,” I say, gently gripping both her arms. “I want you to stay more than anything. But the last thing I want is for you to resent me because of it.”

“You think I’ll end up hating it here and blame you for pressuring me to move?”

I nod, because I don’t trust the words that’ll leave my mouth if I open it again. The nagging thought has been bouncing around my head all morning. While Devin slept in my bed, cozy as could be, I tossed and turned. Iknowshe’s the one. I knowit in the depths of my soul. And if I’m right about that, her returning to Omaha won’t change that.

But if I’m wrong, at least I’ll spare Devin—and Tabby—the heartbreak.

Me? I’m a fucked man if I’m wrong.

“I should get dressed,” she says, her expression unreadable. I can’t tell if she’s mad or just as resigned to this truth as I am.
