“Yes. I do mind.”

“Why?”

“Because you’re an asshole.”

Amused by her feisty response, Jake had the nerve to laugh. “Fine. If you don’t want me to sit next to you, I’ll sit next to Mackenzie.” In one swift move, Jake moved from Skylar’s side of the booth to Mac’s. He sat with his body three quarters of the way in Mac’s direction, with an elbow on the low back of the booth and his knee on the seat. He tapped his fingers on the table and taunted Mac with a cocky grin. “How’s the food?”

The close proximity to one another made Jake’s words leave a hot gust of breath on Mac’s neck. Scrubbing his hand over his face, Mac exhaled as he tried to compose himself. “What do you want, Jake?” he asked, his throat now dry and scratchy. As Mac stared at his plate, Jake’s hand came into view and stole a rib. Mac pinched his brows together, slowly turned his head in Jake’s direction, and watched him take hearty chunks from the pork rib with his teeth. Barbecue sauce was stuck in the corner of Jake’s mouth, and his tongue darted out to lick it off, causing Mac to hold his breath.

Mac watched, mesmerized, while Jake sucked on the bone, then dropped it in Mac’s plate and took another one. The second rib was one that Mac had already taken a bite from. It was too familiar, and strangely erotic. Mac’s mouth had been on that rib, and now it was in Jake’s mouth. A fluttery feeling danced in his chest, and nervous sweat started to bead on his upper lip. His hair felt like a horse blanket, and he wanted to pull it to the side and off his back, but he didn’t dare move. As hard as he tried, he couldn’t avert his gaze from Jake’s lips as he chewed and sucked on the rib as if he were famished.

The bone landed in Mac’s plate with a clunk, and then Jake left without another word.

“Fuuuck,” Mac said on a long exhale, while his hormones collided.

“You can say that again.” Skylar grunted and huffed. “He just left with our whole plate of ribs.”
