“Oh shit,” I said, as my eyes caught on two people walking down the aisle to the right of us.
“What?”
“It’s Wick and Gigi Darcy.”
They were holding hands. And the way Wick was looking at her, without Fitz around so he wasn’t doing it just to piss him off, suggested they were for real.
“I guess they really are together.”
“He appears to be smitten,” Locke noted. “I see now why you didn’t want to hold my hand. Very damaging evidence that. People might actually think you liked me.”
I looked at him. “You don’t think I like you?”
He shrugged. “Do you?”
“Maybe. Do you like me?”
“Not sure.”
I punched his upper arm. “What kind of answer is that? What happened to, I’m the most beautiful girl in school?”
“You are,” he stated it like it was a fact.
“But you don’t know if you like me?”
“I’m not certain I know you very well.I’m certain you have secrets you’re not sharing.”
“And you don’t?” I countered.
“True, I do. At least you’re starting to reveal yourself to me.”
“How?”
“Obviously this is the way you prefer to dress, but you don’t do it very often.”
I shifted in my seat and crossed my arms over my chest. “I wear jeans sometimes.”
“Not once have I seen you in pants. You’re either in uniform, code length, uniform not-code length—please don’t think I didn’t notice that little detail—or some other variation of skirt or dress.”
I said nothing and he continued.
“I mean, I get it. You have amazing legs. Why not show them off? But that’s not why you do it I think.”
“You need to stop talking now,” I told him. Because I didn’t want to hear his conclusions. I didn’t want to know what hethoughthe knew about me. I certainly didn’t want him to be right.
“Nervous I’ll hit too close to home?”
“No. The show is starting.”
Lucky for me it was. Beth and Fitz came out in matching tux costumes, and I allowed myself to get lost in what I was seeing.

“Well, that was something,”I said, as we made our way to the car. “Didn’t exactly see that coming.”
“I already got the video on my phone. I’ll have to text Beth,” Irene said. “She must be raging.”
