Her heat disappears as quickly as it arose. “Oh, Killian. It’s all so awful.”

Gray and I wait in silence for Daisy to find her words. Gray is rubbing her back as I squeeze her hand.

“OK,” she says, then lowering her voice even further. “Did you hear all of the conversation around the fire?”

“Which bits in particular?” I’m wracking my brains to think what could have upset her so much.

“You remember when all that teasing was going on about me pretending to be Brooke?”

“Yeah… oh baby, I’m so sorry, did we hurt your feelings?” asks Gray.

“No! No, that’s not it. Did you hear what Harvey had to say?”

I think back. What had Harvey said? “That he had suspicions but had them confirmed when we all got back together on this island?”

“Yes,” she whispers.

She is silent for a moment, then begins to sob. “Harvey. He hurt me. It was during our first week all together here. He tried to rape me. And then I was terrified that if I said something, everything would go crazy. I thought it wasn’t his fault. He said he thought I was Brooke, and that Brooke loved it rough, so…you know, it was kind of an accident.”

I am not one hundred percent following, but what I am comprehending is so heartbreaking, I can’t speak.

“But then, when he said he knew it was me all along, that means it wasn’t an accident. He did that to meon purpose.” She collapses into me. The idea of Harvey hurting her, getting his hands on her, assaulting her...

My heart breaks as she sobs in my arms.

Gray gets to his feet.

“Gray, wait!”

But he doesn’t wait. Fists clenched, he pounds up the beach towards Harvey.

“GRAY! NO! STOP!”

I look up when I hear Daisy screaming, in the moonlight I see Gray striding towards us, thunder on his face. What the?

He blasts past me. “Gray?”

Without stopping, he reaches where Leander and Harvey are sitting, and pulls Harvey to his feet by his shirt collar.

“KEY! GET IN THE SHELTER, NOW!” I shout.

Harvey hardly gets out on sound, “Wha…?”

Then Gray’s fist meets Harvey’s face, spinning him over and over and then down into the sand. Leander and I leap up, we ignore Harvey, as he groans on the ground, and go to our brother.

“Him. I’m going to kill him,” Gray snarls then spits where Harvey lays cowering.

Gray isn’t normally like this, not since he was a kid. So if Gray says Harvey should be a dead man, then I believe him.

He is usually so controlled. I’ve never met a man who controls his anger so carefully.

“Alright, brother, alright. But don’t do anything when you have alcohol in you. If shit needs to go down, it needs to happen when we are all completely sober.”

I grab his face to make sure he hears me. “I’m with you, but whatever is going on, do it right—OK?”

“FUCK!” Gray roars. “Then get him away from me.”
