I sit back. Time to get cards on the old table.

“Look,” I start, then stop again.

How do we begin this conversation? I guess just plunge right in. “Look, I think we should talk about the elephant in the room, get it over with…”

“I take it that you are talking about my dick. Did you know I have an elephant-dick, babes?” Lennox says.

Harmony snorts with laughter when he makes elephant trunk motions.

Hugo is rolling his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, so there are three elephant dicks in this room, but what you need to talk about is the other elephant…”

Lennox quietens down. “Sorry, Gramps,” he says to Hugo, then he shifts on the sofa so he can face Harmony.

“He’s right. This is all a lot of fun, but we need to figure something out. Otherwise, Asa and I are going to kill each other.”

“Not our Hugo though.” I raise my bottle in his direction. “Our Hugo is allergic to women, isn’t that right?”

Hugo ignores my comment.

“Anyway, what I’m talking about is that me and Lennox both have feelings for you. We both want to date you.”

Harmony is turning a deep red color. I don’t know how to make this less uncomfortable for her, so I just plow on.

“If you have any interest in dating either just Lennox, or just me that is fine.” I tell her. “But here is the thing, Harmony. If you want to date both meandLennox, that is 100% fine as well. We are completely onboard with…”

I want to say ‘sharing you’ but that seems too intense, so instead I say, “poly-dating.”

She is squirming back into the sofa cushions and not able to meet our eyes, poor sweetheart. I go over and kneel on the floor in front of her. Take her hand.

“Harmony, if this conversation is too much, we can stop and never bring it up again…”

Now she looks up. “I…I want to keep talking about it,” she says.

“Good girl. I’ll try and make this easier for you. What if I say some things and you just nod your head yes, or shake your head for no. Shall we try that?”

She nods her head, and all of us laugh.

“OK,” I say. “First question, are you interested in dating any of the Mercury Rising boys?”

After a second, she nods her head. Lennox whoops.

“Calm down, calm down,” I tell him. “OK, second question. Are you interested in dating Lennox?”

A small pause, then she nods.

“And are you interested in dating me?” Again, she nods.

“But…” she says.

I squat back on my heels, heart sinking.

“But, I don’t want to be a Yoko Ono,” she says in a small voice.

That makes me grin. “Yoko Ono? More like Yoko? Yo! No!” Lennox high fives me. “Think of it like this,” I say. “When we are performing, all of us know that we are there for each other, to support each other. When one of us has a solo, and is in the spotlight, we don’t lose our minds with jealousy—we totally love it for them.”

I can see her breathing is accelerated.

“You are our spotlight,” I say.
