“I like it,” Lennox agrees with me. I knew he would. Our eyes turn to Hugo.
Hugo has his serious ‘I’m the only responsible one’ face on.
“Don’t you think there is something the two of you will need to talk about first?”
I know where this is heading. Hugo looks at me. “Are you going to abide by the ‘dibs’ rules Asa?”
I shake my head. “Of course not. We are talking about
Harmony, not some one-night groupie.”
Lennox reluctantly agrees. “It’s a different game altogether with her. In fact it is not a game at all.”
Hugo groans. “She’s gonna be our fucking Yoko.”
“It’s not the same at all,” says Lennox.
“That’s what you think now,” Hugo replies. “But unless you figure something out, it is gonna be a shit show.”
“Are you willing to let her go?” Lennox asks me.
“No.”
“And neither am I.”
“Then you are in a stalemate,” Hugo points out. I do realize that, and don’t need Hugo to be micromanaging this whole thing. But that's Hugo.
“So Lenny, shall we leave Harmony to make the decision?” I ask Lennox.
Hugo is already shaking his head. “For fucks sake, Asa. That doesn’t work at all. You would both still be competing for her. Can’t you just, I don’t know, share her?”
Could we?
Lennox and I look at each other.
I love that guy. I’d walk through fire for him, but share a girl who I could easily fall in love with?
But if Harmony and I were together, Lennox on the outside, that seems just wrong. I want him to be happy and in love,
especially now when Clara is sick.
“I vote we share her,” I say. “Or at least let her know that we are both totally into her, and that she doesn’t have to choose between us. She can have us both.”
Lennox nods slowly.
“Well thank fuck that is decided,” says Hugo. “I’ll invite her over, ask if she’d be interested in lyric writing with us on the album. You two can figure out how you ask her into your weird sex circle.”
Is it weird? Actually it feels natural. Of course, we would fall in love with the same girl. We were a band of brothers. Imagine if one of us had a partner the others couldn’t stand?
Oh yeah, that already happened…fucking Brookes.
Hugo pulls out his phone. “I’ll call her,” he says.
“No,” Lennox and I say together. We look at each other and grin. She is our girl now, Hugo can fuck off. I pull out my phone and start texting. Within a minute she texts back.
“She’s in for lunch tomorrow.”
“Fine,” says Hugo, “now can we please get on with noting down these chord progressions?”
