The fucking police. They came, searched the cabin and then jumped to a lot of conclusions. Most of it is based on the baggie of cocaine they found in the bathroom.

We all guess Screech planted it. Seems in line with the kind of things he used to do to Harmony.

“I read that she is quite the party girl,” one says. It hasn’t been twenty-four hours, the local police are dismissive. One of them has brought the local newspaper, he lays it out on the table.

“Rockers turn local ranch into den of sex and drugs.”

“Seems like your girl could be off with anyone?” He nods to some lacy panties on the back of the sofa.

His suggestion is obscene. I want to punch him, but can’t.

Don’t hit the law enforcement, Asa.

“She recently had a drug overdose, right?” The younger one asks. He’s chewing gum and grinning. Getting off on having some power over the famous rockstars. “She’ll just be off on a bender somewhere.”

My fists curl again. “She has been missing for hours!”

“But she’s taken her phone and purse,” the cop says. “Obviously she went voluntarily.”

“Go fuck yourself,” I shout inside my head.

“FUCK,” I shout aloud.

Hugo has our own security combing the grounds. Harry is organizing more to arrive in the morning.

“We’ll be in touch tomorrow,” the cops say. “I wouldn’t stress about it.”

As the cops walk out, Hugo walks in. He walks straight to a half drunk bottle of vodka on the counter. He drinks, then in one sudden movement, throws the bottle at the cabin wall.

Vodka and glass splatter.

“Fuck!”

“We’ll find her,” I tell him.

He turns to me. I’ve never seen him look so bleak. “If she wants to be found.”

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”

“The All-Star Daily News just rang me.”

HUGO

Idon’t want to break Asa’s heart, but I have to tell him. And Lennox.

“Call Lennox,” I snap. Asa looks like he is going to punch me. “Get him, meet me back at the ranch and I’ll tell you.”

He gives a swift nod, digs out his phone. “Hugo has news, I don’t know.”

I hear Lennox shouting through the phone line.

“Just get the fuck back there.”

Asa and I walk in silence, for the five minutes it takes us to return to the ranch. Lennox arrives a minute later on his motorcycle.

“Well,” he says, panting in the doorway.

Sorry, my brothers. This is going to hurt.
