Chapter Twenty-Five

 Jaxon

Igroaned as my phonedinged, alerting me to an incoming text message. My alarm clock’s bright white numbers glared at me. Who could possibly be contacting me at 6:30 a.m.? I threw an arm over my eyes and rolled over, deciding to ignore whoever it was. Lily and I were up late last night, and I needed more sleep. I turned to my side and pulled her body to settle against me.

My fucking phone dinged five more times in succession.

 Someone better be dying.

I snatched my phone off my nightstand before the annoying sounds woke Lily up.

Jessamine: Why haven’t I heard from you? It’s been three weeks.

 Jessamine: I know you’re up.

Jessamine: WTF Jax. You better be in the hospital unable to talk.

Jessamine: If I don’t hear from you in the next ten minutes, I’m coming over to your house and siccing Reina on you. She’s fiercer than she looks.

Jessamine: Jax... I’m calling Ms. Ketill.

God, she was such a drama queen. And I wasn’t afraid of her cat in the least.

 Me: I’m fucking sleeping, Jess.

 Jessamine: Clearly not anymore.

 Me: Go away.

 Jessamine: You’re avoiding me.

 Uneasiness churned in my stomach.

 Me: I’m not.

But I was, and she knew it.
