Finally, Kade got it. He strode to my side. The instant he was there, I shouted in a high, tight voice, “Babe, I’ve been waiting forever for you to get here!”
Shane loosened his hold to look at my rescuer. Kade was a solid five inches taller than him, and his presence was enough for Shane to falter. I ripped myself from the asshole’s grasp and leapt at Kade, firmly inserting myself under his arm. Even through my clothes, lightning zipped through my body at the contact of our bodies flush against each other.
“I think you need to leave my girl alone,” Kade snarled, snaking his hand around my waist. I wrapped my arms around him, needing a little extra time to get my bearings.
“You’re her boyfriend? Then why weren’t you here?” Shane asked belligerently.
“I’m here now, and I’m telling you to walk away.” Kade’s eyes bore into the jerk standing in front of us.
Shane looked like he was about to throw a punch when he shifted his body to get a better look behind us. I turned my head, noticing two bouncers standing with Stella. Her arms were crossed, and her eyes shot daggers at Shane.
The first bouncer grabbed Shane. “Buddy, I think it’s time to go. We don’t allow that here.”
“Hey, I think you got this wrong. Nothing was happening.” Shane clenched his fists.
“Don’t even think about it.” The second bouncer moved to Shane’s side and grabbed his arm, shoving him toward the door.
The first bouncer looked at me. “You okay?”
I nodded in relief.
“When you decide to leave, let us know. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out in case that guy tries to stick around to cause trouble.”
“Thanks. I appreciate it.”
I smiled up at Kade. “Thanks for saving me. Again.”
The corners of his mouth curled into the barest smile. “Anytime, red.”
I rolled my eyes. My hair was auburn. It might be a very bright shade of auburn, but it wasn’t red.
“Not into nicknames?”
I shook my head.
“Then I guess it’s about time you told me your name. With me being your boyfriend and all.”
I laughed and ran my fingers along the top buttons of his shirt. He kept his arms around me, our gazes locked on each other, wrapped up in our own little world.
“Harper,” I replied.
“Harper.” He grinned. “I like it.”
