I searched her blue eyes for any sign of doubt. I found none. “Okay.”
She leaned in to kiss me. The passion of her kiss wiped away any misgivings I had.
I grabbed her hand and led her to the elevator. It took everything in me to curb the desire to run my hands over her body and kiss her while we waited for the elevator. Even though she agreed to this, Iknewone-night stands weren’t her thing, and paparazzi were everywhere when it concerned me.
I wanted to protect her. Even with the mask, someone might figure out who she was.
The moment the doors closed, I pressed the button for my floor, and my mouth found hers. Her arms slid under my jacket and wound around me. I’d never been more appreciative of a dress design in my life. The slit allowed her leg to hook around the back of mine, and she moaned while rubbing her body against me.
The elevator dinged a warning that the doors were about to open. I sighed and tucked her against my side, noticing that her electric blue curls were tumbling free, and her mask was now tilted. We hastened our steps as we got closer to my room. While keeping one arm around her, I used my room key card to unlock the door.
I swept my arm out, motioning for her to proceed into the room first. Satisfaction filled me as I took in the little details that hinted at our passionate kiss in the elevator. Her smudged lipstick, the pink staining her flushed cheeks, and the bent peacock feathers of her mask bobbing when she stepped forward. She stopped a few feet inside the entryway and paused, her back still to me.
The door shut, and I moved to stand behind her, playfully running a finger down a feather. Desperate to taste her, I ran my mouth down the column of her neck, placing gentle kisses in my wake. She shivered and leaned into me. Her arm reached around to cradle my head to encourage my advances. Not wanting to disappoint her, I proceeded to lick and kiss my way down her neck and upper back until I reached the edge of her dress. “While I think a mask is incredibly sexy,” I slowly pulled the zipper down. “I was hoping to get a chance to see you without it.”
The muscles in her back tightened, and she stood a little straighter. “I, uh.”
Confused, my hand stilled, stopping midway down her back.
Gently, I turned her to face me. Hesitation flashed in her eyes for the first time tonight. Running the backs of my fingers along her cheekbone, I stared at her, willing her to hear my sincerity, “If you don’t want this, say the word. We can stop anytime you want.”
She shook her head.
“I need to hear you say it, gorgeous. I won’t go any further unless I know for sure this is what you want.”
The seconds that ticked by waiting for her response were torture.
“I’ve never felt an attraction like this before,” she murmured and closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them, a determined look filled her gaze. “I want to experience tonight with you. No mask, but we leave the lights off.”
“Why?”
“Tonight is just tonight. Tomorrow, I go back to my life and you go back to yours. It’ll be easier to do that if you don’t know who I am, nor I you.”
Disappointment surged through me at her reminder that this was just another one of my many one-night stands.
“If that’s the way you want it.” I took her hand and tugged her through the combined kitchen and living room portion of my suite towards the bedroom, the faint light from the entryway the only guide I had.
In the bedroom, a king-sized bed filled the space and not much else. She let go of my hand, her eyes locked on mine as she walked to the bed and sat down.
Moonlight filtered in through gauzy curtains, and the glass doors leading out to the balcony bathed the room in a soft glow. Her hands inched up behind her head to unfasten her mask. As it fell away from her face and into her lap, her expressive eyes held my gaze, and I could see every ounce of her desire. I traced her heart-shaped face with my fingertips, trying to make out more of her features in the darkness that surrounded us. When I lightly brushed my thumb over the swell of her bottom lip, her mouth parted and sucked it in.
I swallowed hard.
Shit!
We’d barely done anything, and I was already looking forward to this more than any of my other one-night stands. Unease shot through me. I shoved that unfamiliar thought away and pulled her to her feet.
This was one night, I reminded myself. There was no reason to even think I might get sucked in and let feelings get in the way of enjoying myself. I wasn’t in the market for anything else. This was my body needing to explore this explosive attraction between us. Nothing more.
Her lips curled up in a soft smile before she turned her back to me. She lifted the hair that had escaped and swept it to the side so it flowed over the front of her dress. I imagined the ends would be long enough to tease the tops of her breasts. I inhaled sharply at the thought of her standing before me with nothing to cover her except those long, wavy curls.
I placed a kiss along the top of her spine, causing a shiver to run through her. Grasping the zipper, I slid it down, inch by agonizing inch. Ready to finish what I’d started earlier, I traced my fingers down her back until the zipper ended at the shapely dip of her waist.
Her body trembled.
She tugged her arms out of her dress and turned to face me, still holding the top up by her breasts. My breath caught in my chest as she let go, and her dress drifted down her legs to pool at her feet.
Fuck!
