Stella looked at Jaxon and pointed at my glass. “How many of these has he had?”

Jaxon shrugged. He was smart, knowing not to get in the middle of this conversation.

“Whatever. Did you mean it?”

“Mean what? To offer her the contract. Of course I did. I believe in her business and in her.”

“That’s good. But what I was actually asking is did you mean all the stuff you said to her?”

“Yes.” I still did.

“Then it’s time to do your grand gesture, and sweep her off her feet. For real, this time. I’m here to make sure you don’t mess it up again bucko.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Ashlyn

Stella burst throughthe door of our now shared apartment.

“Where’s the fire?” I teased, even though my heart wasn’t totally in it. I peeked out from the kitchen to see her hightailing it into the bedroom without a word.

My chest tightened at her silence. Three days ago, I sent Stella to give Dean the contract, minus my signature. I thought my message about him getting his shit together was clear.

Figure it out, and come after me.

He hadn’t. My hope was beginning to dwindle that he ever would.

The sound of a zipper came from the bedroom.

“Stella, you going somewhere?”

“One sec, Ash.” her voice practically sang from the other room.

She was awfully chipper today. It was annoying.
