Fox gathered her against his chest. She was breathing! She was alive.

And he was never letting go.

Epilogue

“Twodaysinthehospital.”

“Yep.”

“One broken leg.”

“Yeah, it still hurts.”

“A mild concussion.”

“Thanks for reminding me.”

“And a mate who will take care of you for eternity.”

Lulu lifted her head off Fox’s shoulder and smiled at him.

“This isn’t our wedding. You can’t talk like that at someone else’s wedding.”

He gently kissed her lips and kept her close to his side. Desi and Kora had just said their vows and had their first kiss. Despite exhaustion and feeling a little loopy from the pain medication for her broken tibia, Lulu was glad she’d come with Fox. She’d found a super cute dress at one of the boutiques, and it did a bang-up job of mostly covering the ghastly, clunky boot cast on her left foot.

After Rudd had kicked her into the hole, she’d hit the water and struck her leg, felt agonizing pain before blacking out. Her next memory was the hospital with Fox lying next to her in the narrow bed.

Little Luke made a full recovery and seemed overly excited to talk to the police about how she’d rescued him, and the bad man had kicked her in the stomach and made her fall. She’d pressed charges against Rudd, and man, had that felt good. Immediately after being released from the hospital, she called Clint and quit at Men’s Adventure. That had felt amazing. She planned to present him with the opportunity to buy the article she was going to write on the desperate need for first responders and how her own experience as a layperson rescuer had changed her life—for a premium freelance price, of course.

She’d deal with her father later. Right now, she wanted to enjoy her man and wake up in his super comfortable bed every morning, look into his eyes, and just… enjoy her life. She was even starting to come around to Osprey, who decided they were now BFFs and rarely left her side.

“You were right about so many things,” she whispered. Tears hit her eyes as emotion bubbled up. “I don’t think you know how wise you really are. You’re good at helping people, Fox. Thank you for changing my life.”

“I just gave you a nudge. You did the rest yourself.”

“We did it together.”

He nodded and kissed her again. “Yeah.”

He’d changed, too. Letting go of his fear over being his father’s son was huge, according to Ryker who wasn’t shy about filling her in on just how long Fox had been paranoid. But he was ready now, and they were going to work on a social media plan for him and the business, too. Another big, necessary step.

Seems like she needed to work on her social media presence again as well. Reporters were filling her voice mail looking to interview her about how she’s rescued the boy in a hole in the middle of the wilderness. Fox had insisted she’d never needed him. She’d been the story all along.

“You know,” she whispered in his ear. “I think I’m still in heat. Want to test that out as soon as we get out of here?”

His eyes flashed. “You can’t talk like that at someone else’s wedding.”

“I just did.”

“Yes, yes, I really want to test that. Should we leave?”

Lulu nodded.

But everyone decided to filter out at that moment and into the gardens for the reception. They were caught in the flow of bodies, finally spilling out into the sunshine when someone touched her arm.

“Excuse me, Lulu Orlando?”

She turned, her heart jumping in her throat as Cara Neal, theCara Neal, smiled warmly at her, looking stunning in a blue dress that showed off her baby belly, and long dangling earrings from this year’s spring jewelry line.
