Her phone pinged again with another incoming text.

“Are you going to get that?”

“No.”

She tripped a little bit and grabbed the back of his shirt to steady herself. He didn’t react so she kept a hold of him and let him lead her along until the first streaks of daylight illuminated the sky. She sighed in relief as her eyes adjusted to the ever-growing light. The terrain inclined and soon, she was getting the best thigh and glute workout of her life. Panting and sweating inside her coat, she fell way behind Fox, who trucked up the rise like it was nothing. So much for all those hours in spin class when she couldn’t even climb a damn hill.

But the hill turned out to be more of a mini mountain, and she was convinced the never-ending rise would take them to the sky. It felt like hours passed but that was just the excessive pounding of her heart and mental pleading to be done messing with her brain. Finally, the ground leveled off and an open stretch of grass and rocks became smoother to navigate.

“Look,” Fox called from up ahead.

She caught up in time to catch the view with him. The sun was painting an Imperial canvas of gold and pink before their eyes. Her breath caught. The colors looked so close from here, as if she could reach up with a brush and paint the colors, too.

He looked at her. She felt the touch of his eyes along her cheek and her chest heaved. Why was he looking at her and not the gorgeous sunrise? He moved closer. His left hand slid along the small of her back. Lulu turned to face him as her skin exploded with pleasurable tingles. He looked at her lips, his chest moving faster.

“Do you like what you see?” His voice was deep and strained.

“You or the sunrise?”

“The sunrise, but I’m never one to turn down a compliment if you’re going with that.”

She tipped her head playfully. Oh, her body wanted this so badly. “The sunrise is amazing. As for you, why don’t you come closer and let me get a better look?”

Fox’s nostrils flared, his eyes narrowing as he grew very, very serious. His fingers dug into her back with a little pressure, driving her forward and into him.

She placed a hand on his chest. Anticipation pumped through her. Her lips parted as he dipped his head.

And her cell phone rang.

They both startled.

"For fuck’s sake," she muttered angrily and fished the cell from her pocket. Fox had a clear view of the screen. It was Rudd, of course. Lulu clenched her jaw and pressed decline on the call.

Moment. Over. Again!

"I normally discourage cell phone use, but I understand you're here for work. So if you need to make a call, go ahead." The terseness of his voice wasn't lost on her.

"Itwaswork, but he can wait."

“He?”

Lulu sighed. “Rudd. My coworker and… my ex-boyfriend. It’s complicated.”

“That’s what people say when they still have feelings.”

She put up her hands in irritation and shook her head. “I walked into my house and found him screwing the next-door neighbor on my floor. Now he’s just someone I have to tolerate at work."

Fox stood intimidatingly tall, his body rigid in a way she hadn’t quite seen from him before. He was already huge, but he seemed even bigger right now. Was that anger on his face?

“Anyway,” she continued hesitantly. “I’m not sure why I told you all of that, but I’ll call him later.”

“We’ll lose service tomorrow.”

“Good.”

Fox grabbed her arm and drew her against his body. Lulu gasped as he looked down at her with possessive heat in his eyes. “If he calls again, give me the phone.”

His mouth slammed down on hers. Jerking in shock, it took her brain forever to realize what was happening. Sweet, hot pleasure coursed through her body at the press of his mouth, his kiss consuming her. Her body quivered in delight, finally getting what it had been wanting. Something popped open, like a jack-in-the-box springing to life inside her. The gnawing need became desperate and wild. Their clothes needed to be gone, right now. He needed to be inside her, now, now, now.
