She didn’t ask what he meant, just watched his hard, round ass as he left the room and returned with Treasure under one arm. He plopped the puppy on the bed, who quickly curled into a ball at Kora’s feet and went back to sleep.

“Desi. We can’t start this.”

He slipped the necklace around her neck and fastened it.

“It’s just for one night.”

“She’s got to learn to sleep on her own and self-soothe.”

He shrugged and slipped under the covers. “I don’t know. I think co-sleeping might be best. Look how happy she is.”

Treasure did look pretty cute. Kora fingered the ring, her soul lighting with happiness. No Spanish gold could ever compare.

She had the real treasure, right here by her side.
