Jett shrugged. “I’ve got two boxes like this about half full. It’s not something that can be recreated unless another lightning strike takes out my hives. I suppose it could be turned into resin or something.”
“Or maybe shaped, polished and, speaking of resin, coated in clear coat for preservation.”
“Have at it.”
She looked at him, shocked. “What?”
“Try it, if you want. How many other seven-figure jewelry designers do you know sell stuff made with real honey beads or whatever?”
Cara’s eyebrows went up and she carefully repackaged the pieces. “I couldn’t. You could probably sell this raw material for a nice profit.”
She pressed a hand over her mouth, her face turning a sickly shade of pale green. Her body stiffened, eyes going wide. Jett burst from his chair.
“Enough of this. You need to lie down. You did a lot today.”
He pulled her chair back and helped her stand.
“I have to check my email?”
“It will be there in the morning. Come on.”
Jett snagged the gelatin and spoon and helped her up the stairs and to her bed. She sat on the edge, looking sheepish and queasy.
“Better?” He asked.
She nodded and cleared her throat. Her hair fell softly around her shoulders, a few strands curling around her cheeks. A light rumble filled the air. Her stomach. Cara put a hand there and cleared her throat again.
“I haven’t seen you eat since breakfast,” Jett said and reached for the gelatin. “Have a couple bites, okay?”
She tried to wave him off, but he leveled her with a stare. The sag in her shoulders said she gave in. Cara reached for the gelatin, but he didn’t hand over the spoon.
"It's not the healthiest thing in the world, but it will keep your blood sugar up.”
He scooped some gelatin on the spoon and brought it to her lips. Cara hesitated as if unsure, or shocked. Probably both. His steady hand held the spoon with a small bite for her to take. "Just take a few bites.”
Keeping eye contact with him, she took the offered bite, and then another. The air crackled between them. He felt the heat on the skin of his arms. He watched her, his heartbeat thundering in his ears. Having her stare at him with those big brown eyes as he fed her was doing things to him. Very bad things.
He offered her another bite. Cara breathed hard, her lips pressed together, her pupils dilating. She wet her lips with the tip of her tongue.
Jett shifted his weight, his body growing hot and his pants getting uncomfortably tight in the crotch.
She quickly took the spoon, nearly dumping the gelatin.
“Thank you. I’ve got it.” Her soft voice didn’t help the ache in his blood.
He needed to put some distance between them, fast. “I’ll go grab your tea.”
He walked slowly down the stairs, mentally beating himself up the entire way, retrieved the tea and slowly made his way back up. He was three steps away from the landing before his cock decided to play nice and settle down. Taking a breath, he knocked lightly on the door frame and stepped inside. She was curled up with her head on the pillow, breathing softly. Jett watched her for a few breaths before setting the tea on her nightstand and closing the door behind him as he left.
And went to his own room for an ice-cold shower.
Chapter Fourteen
Analarmwasgoingoff in her room.
The beeping blasted through her sleep-fogged brain. Cara bolted upright in bed, succumbed to a moment of unfamiliarity at the feel of the sheets around her, then focused on the sound.
It was her new phone. The alarm notification was different from her old phone, but she remembered activating this setting last night. Blinking to clear her vision, she grabbed the phone and checked it. Her heart lurched into her throat. The security alarm at her store in Kansas City was going off. She’d had a setting on her previous phone for an alert to be automated anytime the physical alarm inside the store was disturbed. Luckily, she’d been able to transfer the alert to her new number through the security company online.
