“Wait, after less than a week?”
“Yep…and got knocked up six weeks later.”
“Sweet Lord.”
I finally manage to maneuver my foot up on the counter and spread wide enough to shave lower. Oh God, that feels weird. Too bad there’s not a local waxing salon or I’d be face down, ass up right now, letting someone else do it.
“Trust me, our parents weren’t happy about it either. But they’ve been together for five years and have two kids.”
“Damn. I guess when you know…”
“So they say.” She sighs, rolling her eyes, and I laugh. Shehasn’t found anyone to settle down with yet, but I have no doubt she will.
“Warren has two brothers if you wanna move here,” I taunt. “Although they’re young and immature.”
She snorts. “The thirty-five-year-olds aren’t any better up here.”
We continue talking while I shave my legs and between my thighs, then I lotion every inch of my skin. I soaked in the bathtub earlier and finally finished the book I was reading.
Before hanging up, we discuss some of the résumés that have come in. I’m excited to hire more help to give me more time to focus on a work-life balance. Warren deserves that from me, and so do I.
My body shouldn’t feel like I’m fifty because I stay in one position for too long. Even though my desk can rise so I can stand while working, it still wreaks havoc on my back and hips.
“Good luck with everythin’. Keep me updated,” she says and then we say goodbye.
I’m not sure what Warren has planned for us this evening, especially since his lifting restrictions are over, but I want to be prepared. It feels like we’ve waited an eternity instead of a few days.
Warren
I should be home in a couple hours. Any ideas what you’d like for dinner?
I smile at his message, deciding to tease him a little.
Maisie
As long as it involves me being naked underneath you, I don’t really care what we eat.
Warren
Fuck, that was unexpected. My employee, Nicky, was standing over my shoulder so I could show him something on my laptop screen and read your message before I could swipe it away.
Oops.
Maisie
You mean Ricky? Also, my bad.
Warren
No, they’re brothers. He was on his honeymoon last week and today’s his first day back to work.
Maisie
They’re brothers and their names rhyme?
Warren
Yep.
