My heart jolts as Wilder's expression hardens with shame. He looks away, and I do too.
The conversation dies as we make our way through the airport. I take in all the bright lights and large screens featuring shows and casinos that Vegas has to offer. And I shouldn't be surprised, but I am when I see the rows of slot machines.
It takes almost thirty minutes for everyone to get their luggage. Since we're taking the shuttle to our hotel, we head outside to the pick-up area.
"I need a nap and a plateful of BBQ ribs," Mama says.
I laugh at the specific food she's craving. "I hear they have great buffets here."
"Oh they do," Wilder says, stepping up next to me. "Pretty sure I gained ten pounds before we left last year."
"Me too," Magnolia adds. "Just don't eat before goin' on the rides."
I laugh. "Wasn't plannin' to."
Wilder's hand brushes mine while we continue waiting. Mine are cold from standing outside in this weather, but as soon as he teases my fingers with his, my whole body overheats.
Then he casually leans in and brushes his mouth against my ear. "I'll be alone in my room in case you wanna forfeit and give into what you really want me to do to you."
"You mean, whatyouwanna do to me," I retort quietly so no one else overhears.
“Potato, potato. Either way, you'll be beggin' for it."
Chapter Sixteen
Wilder
Looking out the window over the Vegas strip, I contemplate texting Delilah and asking her to come over.
God, I'm a simp.
It's only been a couple hours since we made a deal to take things slow, but that quickly turned into a game of who will crack first, and fuck me, I'm ready to crack now.
I want to kiss those luscious lips of hers, suck on her neck, and feel those curves against my palms.
More importantly, I just want to spend time with her. Even if we're sitting and talking. I love being around her no matter what we're doing.
I miss that time when it's all we did, before we met in person, and nothing was off-limits. That hasn't been the focus of our friendship since then but it's what I crave the most.
...and edging her with my tongue until she comes all over my face.
But I promised to go at her pace, so until she's ready for more, I'll restrain myself.
Once we checked into the hotel, Delilah and her mom went to their room, Tripp and Magnolia went to theirs, and then Iwas left to go to mine alone. The NFR event started already, but everyone was too exhausted from traveling to go tonight.
Instead, we made plans to meet up tomorrow for brunch and then we'll go to the convention center for the NFR Experience—a free fan festival with live music, shopping, and an autograph session with rodeo stars. Magnolia's making us go since she didn't get to last year.
Once she's finished torturing us there, we'll go to the Thomas & Mack Center. The arena is massive, and although it'll be jam-packed, it's a fun experience.
Since I didn't want to eat out, I ordered room service and then took a hot shower. Now I'm bored out of my mind. I should go to bed and catch up on sleep, but I'm too wired. My brain won't shut off and when that happens, I usually find something to distract myself.
Grabbing my boots, I sit on the edge of the bed and slide them on. Then I put on my Stetson hat and grab my room key.
I haven't had a sip of alcohol in almost a month, so maybe a few beers will help relax me enough to pass out.
Except, when I open the door, I'm greeted by the very woman living rent-free in my head.
"Hey..." I blink to clear my vision to make sure she's really standing in front of me. "What're you doin' here? You okay?"
