"What's wrong with her stayin' and keepin' me company?" I ask.
Wilder kicks off his boots and walks over. "Because I know Maisie has endless embarrassin’ stories about me to tell."
"You mean like the time you ziplined through the resort buck-ass naked?"
He points at her. "That's the one."
"I didn't realize y'all knew each other as teens too," I say to Wilder. "You left that little part out, didn't ya?"
"Because I knew she had too much dirt on me."
"I really enjoyed the one where you bellyflopped off a cliff and smacked the water so hard, your entire chest was bruised for a month."
"Hey, that's better than the time I got drunk and jumped off a twenty-foot quarry. Landen and Tripp had to give me CPR."
"That does not make me feel better, actually." I roll my eyes. "No more cliff divin' for you."
"All the locals knew that when the Hollis siblings came over the summer, there was gonna be trouble. There was either one gettin' arrested or one being rushed to the ER."
I look at Wilder with a raised brow.
"Don't look at me like that. I wasn't the only one causin' trouble..."
"I'm pretty sure most of the rules set in place here were because of y'all," Maisie adds.
"Waylon never mentioned going while we dated. When did y'all stop comin’ here?"
"Uh..." Wilder scratches the back of his neck. "The year Landen's friend died during their spring break."
"I don't think Waylon told me about that..." I try to think back but it's been years. I'm pretty sure I would've remembered something like that, though.
"That's another long story," Wilder says, walking to the kitchen and then returning with a bottle of water moments later. "It involves Ellie's cousin, Angela."
"Oh..." Well now I need to know.
"There's leftovers in the microwave for ya if you're hungry," Maisie tells him, getting to her feet. "I should get home before Warren comes lookin' for me."
"Thank you again for bringin' me dinner." I stand and give her a hug.
"You're so welcome. I'm glad we got to chat for a bit."
"Me too. Hope we can do it again soon."
We exchanged numbers before Wilder showed up so we'll be able to text and keep in touch.
Maisie rounds the couch and stands in front of Wilder. "You picked a good one. Now, don't fuck it up." She gives his chest a little smack.
His smile widens when he flicks his gaze over to me. "Don't plan on it."
He walks her to the door, thanks her again, and then returns to the living room.
"How was your class?" I ask, wrapping my arms around him. "Did ya miss me?"
"Good and abso-fucking-lutely I did." He leans down and presses his lips to mine.
"I'll warm up your plate if you're hungry," I offer.
"Sure, but then I'd like my dessert in bed." He cups my ass and squeezes.
