Damn! That shit was crazy as hell. You hear about human trafficking all the time. To know someone who knew a human trafficker directly was not a likely thing.“You felt like you couldn’t tell me that shit? Did you ever plan to tell me?”

“Yes, Euri, I was going to tell you, of course. I was waiting for the right time.” Tears rolled down her face onto her shirt. “It’s not easy telling people that your father is an abusive human trafficker. Who wants to be with the daughter of a human trafficker?”

My heart softened. I pulled her onto my lap, cupped her cheeks, then kissed her lips. With my forehead against hers and my eyes steady, I said, “Bruqlyn, that shit don’t matter to me. As long as your little ass isn’t out here selling muthafuckas. I love your little, firecracker ass. I already told you that you’re mine.”

Yeah, I wished she’d told me sooner, but I got it. Trust was something built over time. It took her like two months to tell me about her skin. That shit right there was deeper than that.

“I love you too,” she said softly. “After all these years, I don’t think my father gave a fuck to try and find me. I figure if he wanted to, he would have been tried.”

I understood her logic. All that could have very well been true, but I was going to stay vigilant when it came to her safety. I needed to know everything about the man, and it wouldn’t be hard to find out since it sounded like he was a textile king or some shit in Mississippi.“Don’t worry about that shit. Just don’t hide shit else from me.” Our lips joined passionately. “Now, tell me, does Miss Sampson and Miss Jones fuck the same, or are they on some different type shit?”

Back To The Present…

After my and Bruqlyn’s in-depth conversation about her past, I fucked her and her alias through the fucking mattress. The next day, I had a background check run on her daddy. I wanted to know where his ass was, and I was pleased to see that he was still in Mississippi.

“Pops, you excited to meet my baby?” I asked my dad.

His smile returned from his tough feeling about my brother’s dick lay down comment. “You damn right I’m ready to meet mydaughter-in-law. Plus, since this is such an auspicious occasion, ya mama and I are cooking together.” He sounded like a giddy teenager. “You know me and ya mama cook like beasts alone. Together, we’re straight cooking monsters.”

No one could ever dispute that shit. That was one of the reasons I was excited to introduce my baby to my parents. I could see myself coming to my mama’s or dad’s house, and her ass would be over there cooking with them. Another monster added to the cooking mix. “That’s what’s up, Pops. I know any chance to be around yourforeveris a good thing.” I used air quotes when I said forever to get a reaction out of him.

“Don’t air quote my love,” he snapped, then stood. “Let me call my woman to see what the menu is. Y’all better be lucky my baby is too old to have babies. I woulda been put one in her again.”

We all groaned. “Pops, you doing too much now,” Derrick said with a twisted face. “Nobody wants to hear you talk about Ma like that.”

He waved us off before he left the room. I wasn’t about to fuck with his delusions. I had better things to do. “I’m about to cut out. I need to meet my baby at this girl’s lawyer’s office.”

“So, she trying to settle or some shit? I thought she just filed charges. I didn’t know she sued her civilly,” Aaron said.

I scoffed. “She got served with the civil suit a few days ago. Bruqlyn fucked that girl’s eye up. Cece claims she hit her in the eye with a barbell. I didn’t see that shit though.”

When the whole fight happened, I didn’t see my baby hit that bitch with anything but a fist. Only two of the witness statements said something about a barbell. Regardless of what Cece was hit with, she had to have surgery. She wanted Bruqlyn to pay for her medical bills.

Bruqlyn’s vanwas parked in the parking lot of the lawyer’s office. I stepped out of my truck and smoothed out my clothes. I kept shit business casual. The lawyer that I hired should have already arrived.

My baby was in the waiting room of the office. Her ass looked good as fuck in her slacks, blouse, and heels, and her hair was in its naturally curly state. I loved it when she wore her hair like that. I didn’t see her that morning, because her ass stayed at the RV park. The only reason I didn’t nut up was that she promised Majesty they could have a sleepover.

“Hey, baby,” she greeted me as she wrapped her arms around my waist and tilted her head back. Her cheeks rose after I cupped them and kissed her lips. Her eyes had a way of enchanting me. I could look into them forever.

Our moment was interrupted by someone sucking their teeth. When I saw who it was, my eyes bucked a little.Damn! My baby really fucked her up. It seemed like she should’ve still been wearing something over her eyes. That shit still looked fucked up.

“Could y’all take that lovey-dovey shit somewhere else? No one wants to see all that shit,” Cece whined. It amazed me that a person could get beat the hell up and still talk shit. That was what I called perseverance.

Bruqlyn’s body turned in Cece’s direction, and her hip stuck out. “I mean, if you close your right eye, you won’t see. The other one is already shut.” She dramatically clapped her hands together and opened them in an upward direction. “Poof, problem solved.”

What the fuck! The mediator came out just in time. “You all can follow me.”

I wrapped my arm around Bruqlyn’s waist so that Cece and her lawyer could go into the conference room first. Bruqlyn and I followed closely behind our lawyer, who led the way. This shit was about to be a whole damn mess.

Chapter 8

Bruqlyn

You could have bought me for a penny when the police showed up at my job to arrest me because I fixed that girl’s funny bones. I mean, damn. Nobody appreciated community service anymore. I didn’t care too much about going to jail, but what I did care about was if they ordered a bond, who would pay it?

When I called Grant to tell him what happened, his ass did the opposite of what I asked him to do. One thing that I could say about Grant and Norma was that they would tell me about myself. I guessed that came with the territory of being a retired educator and law enforcer. I was not happy at all when he told me exactly what he planned to do.
