“You can chat more tomorrow night. Damon and his partners will be at the party,” Mark said. Damon’s face lit up. “This worked out well. Now you’ll already know a few people.” Mark smiled and gestured to an empty booth. “We okay to sit here, Olivia?”

“Yup.” I gulped. “I’ll be right with you.”

“See you gorgeous ladies tomorrow,” Damon said.

Mia and Kendahl about swooned right there. I turned on my heel to get some air but Mia stopped me. “Liv, I think Ken and I need to order some tea.”

“Yes. Tea. We need two tall glasses of it,” Kendahl said in a much louder tone than normal.

They’re the actual worst. Why did I want to move here again? Oh right, because I thought living near my sister would offer support. Instead all I got was meddling. I groaned internally and met them at their booth.

“You have his number? That’s the guy I was telling you about the other day. Dimples! I met him at the gym briefly.” Mia spoke in a whispered shout. “You’re married, young lady!” Kendahl leaned her elbows on the table to listen in.

“It was before me and Wes,” I whispered. “He put it in my phone one day when I was serving him. And keep your voice down.”

 “Spill the tea,” Kendahl added.

“I have to work.” I gestured around to the multiple full tables. “These people aren’t going to serve themselves.”

“Fine,” Mia said. “But we are so finding out more later. Good Lord, that man is hot.”

I crossed my arms but huffed. “I know he is. But I don’t know, he gave me weird vibes when I met him. Not my type. Plus, you heard him. He doesn’t live here. Anyway, I’ll talk to you two nosy meddlers later.”

“We’ll text you,” Kendahl called as I retreated to the serving station.Didn’t I know it.

I hustled to check on my tables and quickly took Mark and Damon’s order without any more small talk. Once I had a second to breathe, I poured myself a glass of ice water and leaned against the serving station, looking over my receipts.

“You okay?” I almost spilled water down my shirt as Wes sidled up next to me.

“I didn’t see you coming,” I said, putting my glass down. His arm brushed my cheek as he reached beside me to grab a glass. I took a steadying breath.

“Busy day. Did you get a break yet?” he asked. I stepped aside so he could fill his glass with water.

“I’m fine. It feels good to be up and about again, even though my feet would beg to differ.” I took another sip of water.

“I can massage them when we get home.” He lowered his voice and added, “I’m great with my hands.” The water went down wrong and I coughed, spewing water onto his white shirt. He chuckled and patted my back. “If you wanted a wet T-shirt contest, all you had to do was ask.”

“You’re all trying to kill me today,” I said when I finally stopped coughing.

“What did Mia and Kendahl do?” he asked.

I wiped my wet mouth with the back of my hand noticing Wes’s eyes intent on my lips. Heat bloomed against my cheeks and up to the tips of my ears and I drew a steady breath. “They’re just teasing me. Nothing serious.”

He reached out and swiped a bead of water from the corner of my lip with his rough, calloused thumb. If I wasn’t bright red before, I was now.

“They’re probably happy for you. You landed such a great guy.” He smirked and wiped his hand against his thigh.

“Lucky me,” I deadpanned. “Speaking of that, when are we going to tell everyone here? Kelly keeps eyeing me. I swear she knows.”

He peeked around the corner into the kitchen. “Let’s tell them now. I have nothing to hide.”

“Not now! Shouldn’t we, you know… break the ice a little? Maybe you can offer them raises or nice fat bonuses first.”

“Why would I do that, Tiger? Do you think they’re going to strike? Rebel? They’ll be thrilled for us.”

“I don’t know,” I cried. “I’m still the newbie and I want them to like me. I feel like they’ll think I’m getting special treatment.”

He leaned in. “You are getting special treatment. I can promise I’ve never once offered to rub Kelly’s feet.”
