Unknown Number:She always wins at games because she’s superior to me in every way…(even though I think she cheats sometimes)

Unknown Number:She may not realize it, but she owns my heart. Every single beat, beats for her.

I turned on my heel at the sound of another phone ringing, barely able to catch my breath. Kelly leaned against the counter, holding the phone out to me. “It’s for you, Wifey.”

I nodded while I wiped my cheek. Everyone in the restaurant was staring at me. I hadn’t noticed it while I was busy reading the messages but I noticed now. I turned my back, walked to an empty booth and answered the phone with a shaky voice.

 “Wes?”

“Hey, Tiger. God, I love the sound of your voice. It feels like longer than a day since I’ve heard it.” He took a long breath while I waited for him to go on. “I have a few things to say, if that’s alright with you?”

I sunk down into the booth, holding the phone close to my ear. “Okay, I’m listening.”

“I know nothing I do or say can make up for the way I treated you this past week. You’ve opened up to me, treated me with love and care when I didn’t deserve it, and I pulled away. Breaking my phone like that was uncalled for. You should never be treated that way. I’m so damn sorry. Will you giveme a chance to make it up to you? I promise I won’t ice you out anymore. I’ll keep all these phones on me, if that’s what it takes.”

I was nodding before I’d said a word. It was too hard to speak with emotion clogging my throat but I managed a raspy, “Yes.”

He released a shaky breath. “Thank you, baby. I’m the luckiest man alive. Will you turn around for me?”

I turned my head and Wes was right there behind me. His dark eyes were damp and his hair looked like he’d been pulling his hands through it all morning. As soon as our eyes locked, I couldn’t hold my tears in, they spilled like an overturned drink.

He slid in beside me and pulled me against his chest. “Don’t cry, please. It’s all going to be okay.” With gentle rubs along my back, and whispered praises, I finally looked into his eyes.

 “I’ve missed you,” I said.

“I know, Tiger. I’m sorry.” He tipped my chin up and brushed a kiss along my lips. His eyes watered and voice cracked. “I love you. I love you so much, I can’t breathe when we’re apart.”

I grabbed his cheeks and crushed my lips to his, tasting the salt of our mingled tears. His tongue slid against mine, exploring my mouth like he hadn’t kissed me in years. Demanding and urgent, I buried my hands in his hair, raising myself onto my knees to get as close to him as I could.

When I heard someone catcall, I pulled back, remembering where we were. Wes chuckled and shook his head. “We should probably go home,” he whispered and slid over to get up.

“Wait,” I said, kneeling so we were eye level. My heart hammered in my chest but I knew how I felt and I couldn’t wait another second to say it. “I love you, too.”

“Come here.” He held me close, kissing the top of my head, my cheeks, brushing soft kisses against my lips. God, I wished we were alone.

“Get a room!” someone from the kitchen hollered, garnering more than a few laughs from the surrounding people.

“I love my wife and my wife loves me,” Wes yelled back.

Laughing, I wrapped my arms around his shoulders. “You’re so loud. The entire street probably heard you.”

“Good, I want everyone to know that I’m the luckiest bastard in the world.” He kissed my neck and the shell of my ear. “Let’s go home so I can show you how much I love you.”

I shivered and felt tingles spread to my center. “What are we going to do with all these phones? Please tell me you didn’t buy them all.”

He stood up and pulled me with him. “Let’s just say, you’ll never have a problem getting a hold of me again.”

“You’re absolutely ridiculous,” I said with a laugh. “We can’t go home. I have to work.”

“Nah, Kelly’s going to cover for you. She already said she would earlier.” He pushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear. “And Mia’s watching Alex overnight.”

 My mouth hung open.

 “You called Mia?”

He nodded and a smile spread across his lips. “I know we need to talk and she was more than willing to help. How do you think I got all those photos of you?”

I could see Mia squealing when Wes asked her to help. Everything made more sense now.
