“I actually had other plans, if you’re up for it?” Those slate gray eyes stared down at me with intensity.
“I’m intrigued.” I reached for my bags, but he beat me to it. “If I say yes, am I going to regret it?” I never knew with him.
He chuckled, deep and rich. “Never. You’re with me, remember?” And he flashed a beaming grin with his dimples on full display.
“That’s what I’m worried about.” I laughed.
“Oh my God. Disney World?” I screeched as Coby presented me with adorable pumpkin themed Mickey ears. We’d grabbed sushi at a decent place near the airport after he picked me up and instead of driving back toward Palm Cove, Coby drove to a hotel. We spent the night tangled in each other. I was exhausted. But we stopped for pumpkin spiced lattes and bagels, and I felt as giddy as a little kid.
I’d never been to Disney before. We never had the money growing up, and once I became a Florida resident, I told myself I’d go but kept putting it off. As we parked in the garage, I could barely contain my excitement.
“Look at mine.” He pulled out a pair of green Grogu ears from the bag in his backseat. “Badass, huh? I found them at the airport when I was waiting for you and knew we had to come today.”
I kissed his cheek. “You’ve never looked sexier than you do right now.”
“Nah, it’s not me. It’s the Grogu effect. Makes everyone seem sexy as hell. That’s why the entire world is obsessed with that Mandalorian guy.”
“You mean Pedro Pascal?” My face heated. “Do you think the Mandalorian will be here to take pictures with?”
His brows scrunched together. “No. I’m keeping you far away from him.”
Laughing, I added, “What? You’re the one who brought him up.”
“You’re right. I want pictures with him too,” he grinned. I shook my head as tears reached the corner of my eye from laughing. “Galaxy’s Edge first then?”
“Duh. Let’s get our space on.”
“Take a bite of my churro.” I shoved my cinnamon covered delicacy into Coby’s mouth. “It’ll help you feel better.”
“I can’t believe I’m this lame.” He chewed slowly and swallowed a small bite. “I’ve never had motion sickness in my life.”
Passing him the cold water we were sharing, I hugged his side. “It happens. At least you didn’t barf on Space Mountain.” I didn’t add that it was a combination of spinning and dark ride anxiety that got him.
“The only upside of that experience,” he groaned.
“Hey, you got to snuggle me the whole time. That has to be a plus.” I knew my teasing would help him perk up.
“Of course it is.” He finished off the rest of the churro and stood up, stretching his arm so that a sliver of his tanned abs peeked out from under his shirt. I couldn’t help staring. He was too freaking sexy. “Now I need to find a way to get rid of that incriminating picture you have from the ride.”
Impersonating the evil queen, I let out my best villain cackle. “Never. This pic will be all mineforever.”
In a smooth voice, he said, “I guess I’ll have to show everyone at the gym the picture of you spilling blue milk all over your chest when you saw Mando, which by the way, I’m still salty about the way he flirted with you.”
“There was a rock on the ground and I tripped, you big butthead. I did not spill blue milk because I happened to cross paths with the hottest man in the entire Star Wars universe.”
“Right…” he teased and scrolled his phone to pull up the picture in question. “And this picture of your jaw touching the floor didn’t have anything to do with said spill? I’ll let Mia be the judge.”
“Oh, go stuff this churro somewhere inappropriate.”
Immediately, he gave me that look, and I knew what was about to come out of his mouth.
“Only if you help.”
Day turned to night too quickly and crowds of people settled all along Main Street to get seats for the light show and fireworks. Autumn here was everything I hoped it would be especially since I loved the villains best.
We’d had to squeeze in on a bench and as the area got more packed with people, I slid onto Coby’s lap to make room for others. The light show started with spooky music and dancing characters. Kronk and Yzma tossed candy out to the crowd, and I had a fangirl moment. I wanted to memorize everything from the way my body felt against the warmth of Coby’s chest to his arms wrapped around me tight, plus the smell of cinnamon and cool air mixed with his fresh scent. Finally, I wanted to memorize the sound of his husky voice as he whispered I love you into my ear after I screamed “Oh my God,” as Darth Vader walked by us. It was the most perfect day.
I found a real appreciation for how comfortable my office chair was because I was so close to never sitting my butt in it again. And an appreciation for Lee, man I would miss them. I could say with certainty that there would not be another person like Lee at Stratestar. I never knew what they were going to say and they always made me laugh even when they made the most facepalm inducing mistakes. I was even appreciating the fine citizens of Palm Cove such as Mrs. Mullins from Berry’s Vineyards who kept me on the phone for an hour this morning talking about all the different wines available for tasting at her event. I actually found myself craving her citrus wine, and that shit made cough medicine seem tasty.
